Once again, an opportunity presented us as a gift has been squandered and is now lost.
There are but two essential facts:

Fact One: Breitbart created a scandal out of whole cloth. It was entirely a lie.

Fact Two: Fox News was a coconspirator in the spreading of the lie, and the primary perpetrator in increasing the volume.

None of that is in dispute.

And therein lies the gift: A clear cut case of a planned and orchestrated attack on an innocent woman as a proxy for the President right out in the open and understood by everyone with an IQ higher than room temperature.

Some courses of action that come to mind are:

Suspend Fox News' white house press access.

File a civil rights violation case against Brietbart

File a Civil Rights violation against Fox News

Announce a criminal investigation of Fox News to find out who was in the know before their smear plan was executed.

Instead . . . . . .

We got what is now the fodder for weekend talk shows. Instead Breitbart and Faux are given moral equality with the NAACP, the White House and the USDA.

I wonder if Mohammed Ali is still available for Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee lessons. We can sure as fuck use them.

5. That's a very good point
I know lots of Democrats. I know damned few of them who are not passionate about what they believe. I know more than a few who would go to the mats (metaphorically, of course) for what they believe in.

Our leaders, however, are the ones who appear weak kneed.

And that makes me wonder. Are they really weak kneed? Or doing what they're told?

If they're doing what they're told, then we may as well just admit that IT IS ALL A SHAM.

8. Shirley Sherrod would be the one to file a case.
Lying through their teeth was not then and is not now against the law. Fair and balanced is their logo, not an oath, and fact has no part of it.

This was a clear political attack against Sherrod and the Obama administration, but that isn't against the law. It is defamation of character, and Sherrod has the right to pursue that and should.

Breitbart and Fox can not deny Sherrod her civil rights. They can and did assassinate her character.

What they did was despicable. but hunting a media organization down for a political attack appears to be a violation of the first amendment's freedom of the press and freedom of speech. Yes, they are despicable. But if Obama can hunt them down then future Conservative Presidents can hunt down any news organization they want.

There should be some kind of accuracy in reporting that is required by any News Organization. Fiction should be labeled as fiction. Showing something that is clearly and knowingly fraudulent should be met with a loss of a license to broadcast.

But Breitbart is a blogger so, at most, he committed defamation of character.

9. For starters, no Democratic President (starting with this one) should
EVER call on a Fox news correspondent at a press conference again. Stop legitimizing them, they've proven themselves unworthy.

I'm not clear about denying WH press access - that may be the decision of the WH Correspondents Association - but a President can damn sure make a decision never to call on them again.

11. There is just one problem...
This entire affair was a self inflicted wound. If this Administrations people had
just done their jobs and checked things out, nothing woud have happened.

And this mess could have been thrown right into Breitbarts face as a slapdown.

This was time wasted and a womans career damaged. It's just stupid.
