The Sherrod scandal makes headlines Europe-wide
This is just the local Düsseldorf newspaper:

The headline says "Unjustly fired for being a racist"

The sub-headline says it was due to a 3 minute video which surfaced on the internet that
was edited not to show that she had called for an end to intolerance.

All Europe was talking about this incident. It's difficult for continental Europeans to
realize the impact of National Hate Radio or Fox, as (in Germany anyway) anything that
too closely resembles Nazi propaganda is forbidden. I know Fox is available in England,
so they have a better idea there how something like this could happen in Obama's America.
Even so, the whole incident shocked a LOT of people here.

3. I can understand how the Germans might be shocked.
They thought that these right wing propagandist were a thing of the past.
Little do they know that America which once fought against such things has become a sanctuary for it.

It clearly shows what Murdocks news corporation is all about

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=News_Corporation

News Corporation describes itself as "a constellation of media businesses, News Corporation's global operations encompass the fields of filmed entertainment, newspapers, pay and free-to-air television, cable network programming, book publishing, magazines and consumer marketing."
(cut)
Mission Statement

"Just as our assets span the world, our vision spans art and humor, audacity and compassion, information and innovation - whether in an American television series, an Indian game show, an Australian newspaper, an English sports broadcast or an international box-office hit," the company website states.

"Every day, hundreds of millions of people are entertained and enlightened by the authors and actors, printers and producers, reporters and directors who fulfill our mission. That mission remains unchanged after half a century of expansion and improvement: the creation and distribution of top-quality news, sports and entertainment around the world," it states.

Bias and Misrepresentation

A year-long study released in October 2003 showed that Americans who relied on the Fox News Channel for their coverage of the Iraq war were the most likely to believe misinformation about the war, whatever their political affiliation may be. Those mistaken facts, the study found, increased viewers' support for the war. Note that these beliefs were not simply biased, they were based on demonstrably incorrect facts.

"Now, with the addition of DirecTV, Murdoch has the last piece in a global distribution system that is unparalleled - and he will be rolling out a swag of new channels to run on that system. If you are a content company like Viacom, Disney or Time Warner, at some point in the future you will depend upon Murdoch to run your programs around the world," Chenoweth wrote. <3>

6. As you peruse he page don't miss the little info blip that
introduces the Tea-Party.

"it says: The members fight against the loss of influence be Neo-conservatives and the religious right. The leader of the movement is Sarah Palin"

No mention about it being lily-white.

7. "Leitfigur" is more of a symbol or a mascot than a leader
Edited on Sat Jul-24-10 08:59 AM by DFW
They're saying that she is the symbolic leader, which is more accurate.

The real leaders of this are Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, John Bonehead and Limbaugh.

Palin may do what her puppeteers tell her to do, but she wouldn't know how to lead a dance.

9. In my experience the world has no problem seeing the US as it is
It's the American people who are so immersed up their own asses in their fantasy reality of grandiosity and entitlement that can't see the reality of this country. Outside our borders, it's a lot easier to see American defects.

17. We (as a nation) are obsessed with the whole Yoo-esssay thing
Our WWII experience changed us as a nation. Before that we KNEW we had problems, and set out to fix them..Once we singlehandedly-won-the-big-one, we became infallible...above reproach..ruler of the universe:(

Our geography protected us, but we chose not to see it that way, and since we were the only major nation NOT devastated by war, we had the advantage of amazing progress....for a while..but now the rest of the world has caught up, and are busily lapping us because we like to bask in glory instead of seeing ourselves as we are.

19. Offense is a human emotion, not an inherent property of a thing
Nothing can be regarded as offensive until someone takes offense at it. That is your choice.
