E-Mails to georgewbush.org (greg palast talked about them)
Edited on Mon May-14-07 03:34 AM by radfringe
GEORGEWBUSH.ORG is a paroday website, they "mistakenly" received e-mails from people working for the bush-cheney '04 campaign...
These are the e-mails Greg Palast mentions...

DEAD LETTER OFFICE

E-MAIL FROM THE GEORGEWBUSH.ORG "CATCH-ALL" MAILBOX
OCTOBER, 2004: Recently, we at GeorgeWBush.org happened to notice that our mail server had a default "catch-all" mailbox, which for the past several months had been quietly gathering any and all e-mails addressed to @georgewbush.org. We felt the need to share.

10.29.2004 UPDATE: GeorgeWBush.org initially posted a select few highlights of the e-mails from its catch-all mailbox. But in response to overwhelming interest in this material, we have since dug back into the pile. You'll find today's newly posted e-mails in the YELLOW shaded boxes below. Also, the catch-all box has now been disabled, having been suddenly overwhelmed by thousands of spam and virus e-mails.

New Florida vote scandal feared
By Greg Palast
Reporting for Newsnight
Tuesday, 26 October, 2004

A secret document obtained from inside Bush campaign headquarters in Florida suggests a plan - possibly in violation of US law - to disrupt voting in the state's African-American voting districts, a BBC Newsnight investigation reveals.

Two e-mails, prepared for the executive director of the Bush campaign in Florida and the campaign's national research director in Washington DC, contain a 15-page so-called "caging list".

It lists 1,886 names and addresses of voters in predominantly black and traditionally Democrat areas of Jacksonville, Florida.

An elections supervisor in Tallahassee, when shown the list, told Newsnight: "The only possible reason why they would keep such a thing is to challenge voters on election day."

Ion Sancho, a Democrat, noted that Florida law allows political party operatives inside polling stations to stop voters from obtaining a ballot.

2. OK, so now what?
Will Palast turn the emails over to Congress?

Or just publish the contents in hopes of getting attention?

I haven't seen much action on this.

Does Waxman even know about this?

4. There were several threads about those lists and emails
back when they were received by the parody site. Hey, Palast probably got them from DUers. :)

There are several threads on them in GD and Election reform.

6. I'd sure like to see the full headers of these. DID they send any replies??
Edited on Mon May-14-07 07:52 PM by L. Coyote
I would have started sending e-mails to all the addresses I received, to get more replies and make sure everyone had the correct "NEW" address.

10. I'm glad you like the links -
There have been so many angles and so much to research and digest, it's been hard to keep up with it all.

The caging lists had us all reeling, many of us sent them on to Conyers since, at that time, he was the only one at the time that seemed to be paying attention to the voting issues.

18. I remember that site, several of us went through the emails
it was amazing that these folks were so friggin stupid to not verify their email addies and the contents were unfriggin believable.

As can be found in one of the emails "Politics is however, a contact sport."

The catch-all email box was disabled after it was overwhelmed by thousands of spam and virus e-mails.

14. You know the disclaimers
that are often on the bottom of business and gov. emails? If they were present, how would they figure into this? The ones I am thinking about are 'If you are not the intended recipient of this email ...etc'

16. that disclaimer was not on any of these emails
You kidding? They thought they were so smart that they couldn't make a mistake, so there was no need for a disclaimer.

Check out this link and read some for yourself!

17. No, I'm not kidding. Why would I be?
And there were a couple of disclaimers on that page of emails. I'm interested to know what the legal situation is.

If I've counted correctly, it's the 19th message from top. It's a bit hard to follow, but it looks like they are forwarding on the emails from yet another party.

21. Well, it would seem that the entity that it was addressed to
e.g. the addie at georgewbush.org, did receive the emails.

I'm not sure how binding the legal disclaimers are when the person sending the email fails to properly verify the addresses.

It's a good question, though.

that was sent by Dana Perino. Something about "...violating campaign finance laws..." and "...God help us if the Democrats find out about this.."
