A Question of Logic Regarding the Business of War.
You have probably read or read about the Washington Post's series on Top Secret America.

After hearing the talk show pundits and reading a few columns, I began to consider a question that, while on the periphery of the discussion, no one seems to have posed. Perhaps it is too naive a question.

The parameters of the question are this: The military works for the US government and ultimately for the people; the tax paying public. They train their soldiers to understand this. Their stated goal is to protect the country and it's citizens. These tax paying citizens want to see their tax dollars go to the best use for the good of the country.

If a private, profit-motivated company, say Halliburton or Blackwater, is in the business of helping to wage war, from a logical standpoint what is their motivation to in any way assist in the cessation of a given war?

3. Perhaps the same motivation as caused Russia & China, two failed socialist countries, to arm for war

The threat or perceived threat against their national interests domestic and foreign.

Russia & China face even greater threats today as their own economies become more dependent upon foreign resources and markets.

The US prepares for war and fights in Iraq and Afghanistan because our National Intelligence Estimate, prepared by the president's experts and approved by select Senate and House committees, says it is in the best interest of the United States.

Agree corporations like you cite profit from war but they can succeed only if they sell their product to a gullible president, senators, and congresspersons.

On the other hand Bush and now Obama may be right and we need to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here. :sarcasm:

4. Permit me one slight editorial change:
they can succeed only if they sell their product to a gullible complicit president, senators, and congresspersons.
