Just Wondering If This Hits Home For Anyone Out There... THIS Is A
song that I came across when clearing out some old email today! Somehow it has ALWAYS stayed with me even though it was written back in the 1980's by Jackson Browne, one of my very, very favorite singer/song writers. It has transcended time for me and may not "touch" any other than me. Just wondering!!
For America... written by and sung by Jackson Browne

As if I really didn't understand
that I was just another part of their plan
I went off looking for the promise
Believing in the Motherland
And from the comfort of a dreamer's bed
And the safety of my own head
I went on speaking of the future
While other people fought and bled
The kid I was when I first left home
Was looking for his freedom and a life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
When the truth was known.
I have prayed for America
I was made for America
It's in my blood and in my bones
By the dawn's early light
By all I know is right
We're going to reap what we've sown

As if freedom was a question of might
As if loyalty was black and white
You hear people say it all the time-
"My country wrong or right"
I want to know what that's got to do
With what it takes to find out what's true
With everyone from the President on down
Trying to keep it from you
The thing I wonder about the Dads and Moms
Who send their sons to the Vietnams ( I myself have now included the NEW WARS here)
Will they really think their way of life
Has been protected as the next war comes?
I have prayed for America
I was made for America
Her shining dream plays in my mind
By the rockets red glare
A generations blank stare
We'd better wake up to her this time

The kid I was when I left home
Was looking for his freedom and life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
As the truth was known
I have prayed for America
I was made for America
I can't let go till she comes around
Until the land of the free
Is awake and can see
And until her conscience has been found.

5. GREAT VIDEO!! Thanks For Posting! I Think I Have Everything "Jackson Browne"
and have gone to see him in concert when I was able! I actually FIRST bought his LP's that I wore out from way back in the 70's... Dr. My Eyes, etc. Went out and bought them again. Then I taped PBS programs on VCR's, then cassette tapes and NOW CD's down-loaded to my iPod!

He's been one of the up front activists for such a long time and sure WISH we had more out there like him! I know the BOSS does a lot and Pearl Jam, but still would LOVE to see more of Jackson! I so wanted my daughter to name her son Jackson because she married a guy who has the last name of Brown! But she decided to make him a namesake JR!

Was going to name my male chocolate lab Jackson, but I have female we named Shawnee, so went with Dakota for obvious reasons! SOMEDAY, I'm going to name someone after him! There are so many GREAT singer/song writers, but this guy has ALWAYS captured my soul! And PLEASE, to anyone who wants to post about his relationship with D. Hannah, might I ask that we skip it for THIS TIME!

I think we've had a good example of "facts" and "some facts" and even I don't think I know the complete story behind what went on. I do know he wrote some songs making reference to it back at that time, but it hasn't made me turn away from his talent! And, I DO believe that many times people make awful mistakes only to have regret in the end. I'm sure I could compile a long list of names at this point in time! SOME people get forgiven quickly, then some WILL NEVER BE forgiven!

And no, I don't condone ANY violence nor adultery, etc., etc.! I also don't condone BEING LIED TO on a continual basis by far too many in POWER that doesn't seem to get corrected much anymore. What's more it seems the LYING has almost become "the thing you do" these days! And then more lying on top of the first, to the point where you don't know WHERE to start to try to debunk the FIRST LIES!

Again thanks for the video, LOVED IT!!

6. Big Jackson Browne fan here!
Here is another old song that still rings true more than ever.

INFORMATION WARS

Give us twenty minutes and we'll give you the world
We bring good things to life
The news you need from people you can count on
Doing what we do best

The heartbeat of America
Your true voice
You're in good hands
Now more than ever before

And in the flickering light and the comforting glow
You get the world every night as a TV show
The latest spin on the shit we're in, blow by blow
And the more you watch, the less you know

Beyond the hundred million darkened living rooms
Out where the human ocean roars
Into the failing light, the generations go
Heading for the information wars

Do people really spend millions upon millions
To make us think we care about the planet
At the same time polluting and looting the only world we've got
So they can maximize their profit?
People do.

The heartbeat of America
Your true voice
For the life of your business
It's everywhere you want to be

And there's a front row seat for the precious few
The latest war as a pay-per-view
Famine and disaster right in front of you
And the more you watch, the less you do

Beyond the hundred million darkened living rooms
Out where the human ocean roars
Into the failing light, the generations go
Heading for the information wars

7. Thanks For MORE GREAT Words From Jackson! Just Got Home & I See
that this post just died. I thought it would, but still my heart is were it was this AM!

He has written so many songs that have been given so little attention! I DO recall a time when these types of songs would have been considered "anthems" of a sort!

Those times have come and gone, and even most new singer/song writers won't be leaving much of a mark in years to come. Not like The Beatles, Dylan and a VERY VERY long list of others of "My Generation!"

Thank you for contributing anyway!
