Disappeared without a trace: over 10,000 Iraqis

BAGHDAD, Iraq - When her heart is heaviest, Sahira Kereem tries to think of the little things her husband did that annoyed her. She remembers times when she suggested they visit her parents, and he just rolled his eyes.

The mental trick rarely brings her comfort. The fact remains that Riyadh Juma Saleh, her husband of nearly 15 years, went missing one day nearly three years ago and Kareem has no idea what became of him.

Over the past four years, as sectarian kidnappings and killings have gripped Iraq and U.S. forces have arrested untold numbers in an effort to pacify the country, tens of thousands of Iraqis have vanished, often in circumstances as baffling as that of Kereem's husband, a Shiite Muslim father of three.

There's no accurate count of the missing since the war began. Iraqi human rights groups put the figure at 15,000 or more, while government officials say 40 to 60 people disappeared each day throughout the country for much of last year, a rate equal to at least 14,600 in one year.

3. Sounds like part of the strategy is working out for the U.S. and allies.
Someday Iraq will be void of all opposition, by any means, along with the many innocent that happened to be in the right place at the right time (Home) facing the wrong liberators. Just like the Native Americans they will be forced to comply or face extinction. No doubt mothers and fathers love their children there too and to save them will sacrifice their culture and happiness to wake up tomorrow. Compliance still does not assure you won't be the next casualty of freedom.

Sounds alot like Central America. Reagan and Carter right? Ah, the American ruse.

4. How much WORSE is it now than it was under 'Saddam' ?
Edited on Sun May-13-07 01:40 PM by Trajan
How many have died in this great fiasco ? ..... 200,000 ? ..... 300,000 ???

When does this occupation become WORSE than the regime Cowboy George overthrew because Saddam was a 'bad man' ? .... We are beyond that point ....

Saddam was a Stalinistic asshole .... George and his Neocon retinue have presided over the killing of many more than Saddam .... And Saddam had the help of elder Bush and Rumsfeld to run up his bodycount in the Iran/Iraq war ......

5. a premonition, perhaps, of what could happen in THIS country if . . .
BushCo decides to orchestrate an "attack," declare martial law, and cancel the 2008 elections . . .

"Ridiculous!" you say . . . "They would NEVER resort to anything so despicable!" . . .

To the Hague with these fascists. That includes Rumsfeld, Powell, Tenet, Cheney, Bush, Rice, and all of the PNAC masterminds. They've brought untold suffering to the world.

What are we waiting for! How many more have to die for the corporations and their owners?

Not everything in Iraq is Bush's fault. But he is the one who is dropping the bombs and killing. There's no doubt.

Edit- However, the Hague won't happen until we impeach. And this is why impeachment is so critically important.
