Email from my new Senator:

GOODWIN STATEMENT AFTER FIRST SENATE VOTE
Senator Votes to Provide Unemployment Insurance to West Virginians in Need

Washington, D.C.—Senator Carte Goodwin today released the following statement after casting his first vote in the Senate for a cloture vote to extend unemployment insurance (UI) benefits to thousands of West Virginians and millions of Americans:

“I am deeply honored that my first vote in the United States Senate could help so many of my fellow West Virginians who are struggling during this difficult economy as they search for a new job,” said Senator Goodwin.

“I know my time in the Senate is limited, but I pledge to work hard, every day, making lives better for the people I represent. Too many people have been suffering while this bill has been held in limbo and I’m glad that I was able to play a part in pushing this legislation forward.”

The bill was successfully passed by a vote of 60-40 in the U.S. Senate.

What wonderful news for all those who are suffering!

7. Yes he would!
It was bittersweet, getting this great news from someone else in Bobby's office.

On we go, and hooray for all those unemployed who will now get a little bit to get them by for another month.

9. He's a stand-in.
Our Governor Joe Manchin (D) is running for this Senate seat in a special election this fall.

10. I'd guess he made a pledge to Manchin that he wouldn't run
Still, it's great that he had the opportunity to cast a critical, deciding vote on an important piece of legislation.
