Who would volunteer to be Alvin Greene's campaign manager?
Edited on Tue Jul-20-10 02:30 PM by AnArmyVeteran
Even though Alvin Greene is in his first political campaign and he's a real novice at public speaking would anyone want to volunteer to be his campaign manager or strategist? So far he has three people in their twenties working for him using computers to get his message out. Greene's campaign slogan is "Let's Get South Carolina Back to Work". Nothing wrong with that.

I consider anyone running against the likes of Jim DeMint for the senator from South Carolina to be a zillion times better than the ultra-right wing and religious fanatic DeMint.

Greene already has a big advantage. His name has only one syllable in it. DeMint has two. Voters like simplicity and we are talking about South Carolina here, the state with Representative Joe (you lie) Wilson, Governor Mark (Hiking the Appalachian Trail) Sanford and Lt. Gov. Andre (the unemployed are like stupid stray animals) Bauer. A lot of people even like the color green . When I listened to Mr. Greene's first speech he did list a lot of things I would definitely support. One of his biggest selling points is he is NOT Jim DeMint.

So far no big name democrat is even getting anywhere near Mr. Greene . I suppose they don't like how he slipped in under their radar. But it makes one wonder about the democratic leadership in South Carolina if they didn't even have a clue who was in their own primary.

The jury is still out whether Greene was planted by republicans or not. I wonder how he was able to scrape up more than ten grand while being unemployed and living with his father. It seems like it would be easy to follow the money, but so far I've heard nothing illegal has occurred.

So would you volunteer to be on Alvin Greene's staff? It would be the biggest upset in the history of US elections. But if he is first on the ballot, as he was in the primary, he might have a shot at winning. Hell, anything is possible in South Carolina politics.

If I lived closer I would definitely volunteer to work for his campaign.

1. Sorry, but he seems like a true idiot
An idiot facing possible criminal chrages, with a questionable military record. While I agree that almost anything is better than DeMint, I wonder who would be pulling Greene's strings, because he's certainly a puppet in this play.

6. We should support Greene....if he wins...demented loses...1 less senate seat for the GOP
If Greene sides with the gop...they lose....He would replace a power hitter for the pubs...

if he decides to caucus with DEms...the GOP loses

Its a win win for the Dems

32. I won't support Greene
Not that I can vote in South Carolina anyway, but I won't support him just because he's a "democrat" running against DeMint. I have no idea how Greene would vote on any given issue because he appears to have no voting record and no platform. I do feel sorry for him. He's a puppet that doesn't have any idea what's going on. I am curious to know who's pulling his strings but I probably never will. Its a sad situation for South Carolina.

2. Who knows? Being an idiot who confused English with babbling worked for Bush.
“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” - H.L. Mencken

Check out his wiki bio:

He graduated with a degree in poli sci and was in army intelligence in the service. There's something odd....I think he may surprise everyone.

8. I would vote for Greene over EVERY & ANY republican!!!!!
Remember, Forrest Gump was filmed partly in South Carolina. And even though Forrest was a little slow, he had a pure heart and a lot of wisdom. Damn that was a good movie.

If I was rich I'd make realistic looking money with Greene's picture on it with campaign slogans like "Greene is good, Greed isn't". Then I'd distribute millions of the bills throughout the state.

And remember, the pending felony charge against Mr. Greene could help him in the election when you consider the likes of other South Carolina politicians like Representative Joe (you lie) Wilson, Governor Mark (Hiking the Appalachian Trail) Sanford and Lt. Gov. Andre (the unemployed are like stupid stray animals who will breed if you feed them.) Bauer.

21. Hell, in South Carolina they might become legal currency.
How do so many mutant right wingers rise to power in that state? What kind of people live there? I know there are a lot of decent people everywhere, but South Carolina seems to have more than its share of republican freaks. Alvin Greene sounds like the most intelligent, sane and best qualified person running for office in South Carolina.

23. I lived there too! From 1978-1980
Edited on Tue Jul-20-10 07:09 PM by livetohike
and taught elem. school in a rural area near the coast. There were/are a lot of cool people there then and I've connected with some of them via Facebook. My best friend (whom I taught with) is a native Charlestonian and has never left. She's a solid Dem - they are out there.

Pick up any of Pat Conroy's books to get a sense of what the people are like. South of Broad is his latest book. They cross the spectrum, but we just hear about the whackos. Yes, there are the rabid, wave the Confederate flag red necks, but particularly in the beach/island areas there are some great people. It is Bible belt country particularly up in the mountains.

I lived in Houston from 1980-1982. Husband worked for Texas Instruments and I taught in the HISD.

25. Thanks for the book tips! I know only a handful can make a lot look bad.
I didn't mean to, but I guess my brush stroke was too wide. I heard the SC beaches are very nice there. As well as the people.

I'm surrounded by right wingers where I live.

80-82 was a good time. I had a lot of fun between those years.

Tex Instruments used to be big there..

Not a great speaker, but seemed to have a basic grasp of the issues, and was on the right (that is, appropriate) side of all of them, as far as I could tell. I'd have no problem voting for him.

31. I was impressed
He's by no means a great orator, and he looked very nervous, but compared to his performance after the primary he's improved a great deal. If he's really that quick a learner he's got potential.

Would I vote for him over Demint if I were in S. Carolina? Sure.

22. Alvin Greene could also become a dancing machine!
Remember 'Gene Gene the Dancing Machine' on Chuck Barris' the Gong Show? He was a real hoot! And a good dancer too!

Alvin Greene could become "Greene Greene the Dancing Machine" and dance his way all the way to the senate. He could wear all green clothes and become a national sensation.

Yogi said "it aint over until it's over" Hell, if elections were held more like the 'Gong Show' we'd probably get better candidates. I'd love to be on the panel of judges gonging the hell out of candidates like Jim DeMint. We could have 'virtual gonging' from people all over the state or country where everyone could instantly participate.

Or how about 'The Unknown Candidate' where a person running for office never had to reveal his face because he had a bag over his head. The "Unknown Comic" on the Gong Show was a riot.

I think that sound I just heard was the sound of a lot of people gonging the hell out of my brilliant ideas :(

24. Don't ya think DeMint would have picked someone less well known & less intelligent than Greene?
:)

Seriously, although I smell something about how he became the nominee and how he was able to get over ten thousand dollars to even file. But there's no way there would be any direct ties to DeMint. He was basically a shoe-in from the start so he wouldn't have taken a chance like that, even though I know he's corrupt enough to do it. I'm sure a lot of people have already followed the money and if there was a story it seems as if it would have broke wide open by now. It would be nice to think DeMint was behind it and then ended up in prison, but that's not only unlikely, it's virtually impossible.

If Greene honestly used his own money he could parley his 'investment' into a lot of money if he played his cards right. A lot of people do a lot of crazy things to be famous or to make a lot of money. Maybe that was Greene's plan all along. But there's always a chance he could be sincere, however slim.

27. He was cleared of any wrongdoing because he did have
that much money in his account. But considering he is unemployed, I presume most unemployed people would not go around spending whatever money they have in their accounts on filing fees.
The whole story just seems so strange to me. If he didn't win the primary, then he would have just wasted that money, and considering he barely campaigned, did he really expect to win the primary? Of course it is possible he actually thinks he is going to get to be a senator, so who knows.

28. what he was cleared of
Was that he declared himself indigent to get a public defender and then months later paid $10,400 to file to run. He has not been cleared on the charge of showing pornography to a minor. We have a real chance to beat the Palin-endorsed candidate for Governor, but the GOP is doing everything they can to tie Greene to the very capable and credible candidate for Governor.

34. I'm pulling for him!
A typical prison has people with better character and more honesty than Jim DeMint. Okay, DeMint might be better than Charles Manson. I know Greene is better than DeMint.

Anything is possible in that state. I live in a state that elected two bozos and frauds like Bush and Perry for governor. The electorate in a lot of states are truly proud of their ignorance.
