Poll question: Which would you rather live in?
I am just wondering how DUers would decide if they were me.

2. I do
I have lived in Phoenix for 3 years and 2 months. I came here from South Mississippi and if I were to leave Arizona my only option would probably be going back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I am hoping to move more to the rim country if things work out right because I can't stand the thought of going back to the Mississippi Coast, but I might be stuck in Phoenix.

I'm assuming this is a Mad Max world where choices are limited. I actually love redneck Idaho.

8. I love Arizona
That is, I love the desert, the sun, and a lot of people that live there.

But I can't stand what idiots like Brewer, Pearce, Arpaio, Kyl, and McCain have done to the state :evilfrown:

15. I like Austin Tx
but Texas doesn't really attract me. Mississippi really is beautiful but is backwards and too Southern Baptist. Arizona is so diverse in terrain and temps. but Payson and the Rim Country are so pretty and cooler than Phoenix.

in fact around Flagstaff snow comes often in the winter. Payson is a little warmer but a good deal cooler than Phoenix or Tucson.

19. I love Arizona other than the latest racist law.
I loved Arizona from the first second I went there. I've been everywhere from the California-Arizona-Mexico border to Phoenix (and the burbs), Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, petrified forest, and painted desert. I just love the state. It's sad that this law passed.

21. I can't take the desert - my sinuses bleed when the humidity is too low
Since I have lived along the Gulf coast all my life, I'd rather stay here. Of course, I'd rather stay in my part of the Gulf Coast in our little blue enclave in the Big Bend of Florida, but if I had to, I could handle the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It would not be all that different than where I am, except I wouldn't have my farm.

23. Have you considered Chihuahua?
Nice and Deserty, cheap... and more open minded than either Arizona or Mississippi. You might even be able to get some "Tropical" radio stations out of Veracruz.

And, you could always take a train through the Copper Canyon when you just need to get out of the house.

31. As a part-time resident of Arizona, Trent Franks' district...
'Just die quickly' looks like an acceptable alternative to Mississippi. But what I really do, when Arizona get to be too much, is head back to Utah. Surprisingly, the people there aren't nearly as unstable as the Arizona crazies.

33. I'm in Arizona, currently the east valley, which I despise.
I lived just outside Prescott for many years and then Williams (gateway to the grand canyon)for a short time, but if I could choose a place in Arizona to go now, it would be back up to Prescott. I like Payson, too, but its changed so much over the past twenty-thirty years and not, IMO, for the better. I have a grandson there, and a granddaughter in Prescott, so either would work out ... if I could get it done at this late date and on my limited income.

But if I could take the winters, I'd head back to my roots in South Dakota. Rapid City or Mobridge, preferably.

I was stationed at Ellsworth and spent about 2 years there. I loved the country but no the winters. Arizona is pretty much like S.D. in ways without the harsh winter.

36. Yes, there are similarities in parts of Arizona
Edited on Tue Jul-20-10 11:35 AM by immune
I guess the most noticeable difference to me, though, is the people. Arizona's population is more transient and less connected with each other and to the land while the people of SD are more .... I want to say stable and if they leave at all, its usually only to come down here during the winter months to become snowbirds. Can't blame them for that, even though its hard not to cuss them on the roads. I used to have a bumper sticker that said "Pray for me, I drive the trail". :eyes:

I went back up there (Aberdeen) for several months in 1995 and loved every minute of it. Well, at least until it got to 40 degrees below zero.

37. like I said it has been decades
but when I was there in the early 70s I found the people nice and friendly. I had a family sorta adopt me and they treated me very well. I find that attitude isn't as big here in Arizona. This valley overall is one of the most unfriendly places I have been and self absorbed, although there are those who I think are really great and caring, sadly the Libertarian craziness has taken over and it has made this valley a very unfriendly place.

39. Hadn't thought of it that way, lol.
Have to say I've known some really funny friendly libertarian types here, including the gal who ran for Governor on the Lib ticket back in 2000, Cat Gallant. Didn't know her all that well, pretty much just through work, but she was hysterical to listen to and really pretty liberal in her outlook. She once rode her horse up the capitol steps because she was so ticked off at some policy .. can't remember what it was. No one ever expected her to win ... herself included, but it was fun to watch.

Its the republicans around here that I find to be so totally intolerant and hateful toward any damn idea that isn't pumped directly off Fox news. And unfortunately, there are plenty of those types in the high country, too.

38. Neither.
I'll stay here in the Pacific NW, thanks.

The closest I've come to Arizona is a weekend spent in Laughlin. The closest I've been to the Gulf Coast is a 3 day working trip to Houston.

Politics and environmental disasters aside, I don't like heat and/or humidity.
