U.S. Rep would rather kill our children than educate them.
An acquaintance of mine wrote this guest column in today's edition of Florida Today. I am appalled this man ostensibly represents my interests in Washington. *shudder*

http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070513/COLUMNISTS0205/705130325/1138/opinion

"One of us repeated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assertion that spending more money on military expenses than on programs of social uplift connotes spiritual decline.

We were dumbfounded when Weldon responded, 'We don't spend enough on defense. If I had it my way, I would shut down the federal Department of Education and give the money to the states. Defense spending is not enough.'"

1. That rep is not fit to serve in any government in any capacity.
x(

Shut down the Dept of Ed? :wtf:
We would be right back to the days when only rich kids could get an education.

2. He's been the rep in that district for something like 14-16 years!
He is a former osteopedic surgeon. His hot buttons are a woman's right to choose and stem cell research. Doesn't give a shit about the rest of the world as long as women's uteruses are his to command.

3. It's already headed that way here in michigan, a number of puke supporters are trying to
get public schools closed and only allow private schools. After all school vouchers are making private education available to the poor and it will stop violence in schools.

5. His comment is a non-sequitur.
'give the money to the states' - so for all the money leaving the Federal coffers; it'd go to the State coffers instead?

How does that pertain to more military spending? It's merely a transfer of control from federal to state domain -- that is irrelevant to acquiring more funds for the military, which reminds me: Without American workers paying the taxes, as we all know most corporations get through loopholes so their net payment is little if anything at all, how long before government can't pay for anything. At all. ?

And if this is going to culminate in a world globalized order, what's happening to India's, China's, Russia's, England's, and every other country's governmental system to comply with the new global order? I'm assuming they have no qualms with this. If it really is the net result of globalization we're talking about?

10. Again the pukes in michigan came up with another great plan to solve their give aways to the rich
Edited on Sun May-13-07 03:24 PM by mrcheerful
and putting the state in the red. It's real simple, they are calling it the fair tax system. What it amounts to is getting rid of the state income tax and raising sales taxes by 7.5%. The way they are selling it is, under this plan all those illegal Mexicans working in the state and not paying income tax, will then get hit with a sales tax so they will make up the 2.9 billion dollars lost from illegals not paying income tax. What I want to know is then why aren't they going after the businesses using illegals as workers and hitting them with 6 billion dollars in fines? After all, if pukes know how much tax dollars are lost due to illegal workers then it stands to reason they also know who is hiring the illegals.

Oh as a foot note the pukes also added that what makes this a fair tax is the rich will have to pay the same sales taxes as the rest of the state. I guess someone forgot to tell michigan pukes that the rich will just jump into an air plane and fly to another state with lower sales tax. When the question was asked of one puke why wouldn't the rich just go elsewhere to buy goods. The pukes answer was, well if the rich person goes to Canada to buy a car, they will have to pay michigan state taxes to get the title and registration. I guess he forgot michigan is not the only state in the USA. Remember theres a set fee for transfering titles from one state to another, but you can't be charged sales tax twice on said vehicle.

9. For an example of what the neocons view on education is
look to rural Texas:
Texas Graduation Rate Worst In Nation, Again

Seventy-seven percent of Texans age 25 and older had a high school degree in 2003, the same percentage as a decade earlier, when Texas ranked 39th in the country. So while other states have seen their graduation rates improve—a record 85 percent of Americans have high school degrees—Texas is treading water.

http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2004/07/texas_graduatio.php

The neocons know that if the people are not educated they can dominate them.
Non graduating students earn average $19,000/year they have to take low paying jobs
Non graduating students will be less likely to follow the corruption taking place in the government at all levels and will not become involved allowing the neocons more opportunity to dominate.

11. Perhaps if he looked at what the $ for Defense is spent on...
and how much of it is wasted and just plain hijacked, he might change his tune.

As for him shutting down the Dept of Ed, why would he even consider such a foolish thing? Once again, find the fraud and abuse, don't kill a person because they have a diease, cure the disease.

This guy isa whack job...x(
