TPMDC: Second Tea Party Group Distancing Itself From Mark Williams
Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 10:50 AM by Turborama
Evan McMorris-Santoro | July 19, 2010, 11:11AM

There's evidence this morning that even more tea partiers are seeking to distance themselves from the Tea Party Express' Mark Williams and his racially-tinged rhetoric. In an email sent to its members this morning, the Tea Party Nation group appeared to back away from Williams and make it clear that it doesn't agree with his http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/tea-party-express-mark-williams-naacps-use-of-colored-makes-it-racist.php">controversial anti-NAACP blog post.

"As most of you are aware, one of the leaders in the tea party movement posted a controversial blog many took to be racist," Tea Party Nation leaders wrote in the email obtained by TPMDC. "Tea Party Nation and many other groups have repudiated racism and racists ... We have banned members who were racists and will ban any members who show themselves to be racist."

"The Tea Party Movement is not racist," the leaders add. "Tea Party Nation welcomes all patriots, regardless of gender, ethnicity or national origin to join us and help save this great country."

=snip=

Williams has refused to talk to the media about the Tea Party Federation's move, but posted a long post to his blog over the weekend http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/mark-williams-slams-tea-party-group-for-kicking-him-out.php">slamming the expulsion as little more than a publicity stunt.

Could we be seeing the beginning of an implosion...?

ETA...

Why is CNN still allowing Mark Williams on its network?

Just how racist does Mark Williams have to be before CNN will refuse to invite him on its network?

Williams has a http://mediamatters.org/blog/201007140023">long history of incendiary and racially charged remarks. CNN knows about this-- heck, Anderson Cooper http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200909150021">called him out on it last September. But it has never stopped CNN from repeatedly inviting him on.

Williams wrote a July 15 http://mediamatters.org/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fpoliticalcorrection.org%2Fblog%2F201007150012">blog post in which he not only attacked the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for the use of "colored people" in its name as racist -- an idea he also promoted in an http://mediamatters.org/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fedition.cnn.com%2FTRANSCRIPTS%2F1007%2F14%2Fsitroom.02.html">appearance on the July 14 edition of CNN's The Situation Room, in a debate with Roland Martin -- he also portrayed blacks as lazy and NAACP leader Ben Jealous as supporting the repeal of civil-rights laws so that "massa" would again take care of blacks: "As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions!"

Williams' post was so incendiary that he was http://mediamatters.org/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Ftpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com%2F2010%2F07%2Fmark-williams-removes-racist-blog-post-calls-for-racial-harmonykind-of.php%3Fref%3Dfpb">forced to remove it, and the tea party organizations in which he has been active are http://mediamatters.org/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Ftpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com%2F2010%2F07%2Fafter-racist-post-firestorm-mark-williams-demoted-on-tea-party-websites.php%3Fref%3Dfpb">working to separate themselves from him and demoting his involvement with them.

You'd think that would be a sign that Williams is not someone who should be invited on CNN. You'd be wrong...

4. Yep, as Bob Cesca pointed out in March...
In his article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/the-tea-party-is-all-abou_b_484229.html">The Tea Party Is All About Race

=snip=

TeaParty.org founder http://washingtonindependent.com/73036/n-word-sign-dogs-would-be-tea-party-leader">Dale Robertson brandished a sign with the (misspelled) word "niggar." So they're not even as restrained as the generally unstrung Atwater anymore.

And of course, there's this...

3. We probably haven't seen the last of Williams. As "low information"

as most of the Tea Parties are, I am sure very few even know about this yet. And if they do they will get their info on it from Fox. They could spin it as the "PC Police" in the media attacking Williams.

Also, these are just 2 groups and still probab,y not representative of the whole party. Some 'baggers are saying the smaller groups will condemn Williams just to get the momentum of exposure from the "MSM". So theres a potential power vacuum and a struggle for control going on here.

It could be the end for them, or it could be their "validation" as a "legitimate" party by the establishment media. I'm hoping for the former myself.
