Harvey Pekar dead at 70

Harvey Pekar, the Cleveland comic book author who made prickly honesty about everyday life into an artistic credo and whose outward aspect of dour dishevelment masked a passionate, elegant intellect, has died. He was 70.

Pekar was found dead early Monday by his wife, writer Joyce Brabner, at home in Cleveland Heights, Ohio,

3. Either it hasn't happened yet....
...or it's a week old. If it was a week old, and not covered, that would be different.

There is search function.

The main page fills up every 90 minutes to three hours as it is.

4. Has to be last week
He was enough of a cult character that his death would have been ignored by all the press under 40 who had no idea who he was. It had to take a fan reading a short death notice and screaming "Do you know who this guy is?" to get it reported this widely. That's what likely took a week.

I have to admit that I was never into "graphic novels" or the fan cult behind them. I had read a couple of his works and Crumb's works in periods of utter boredom at some freak's house, but that was it. It was not anything I sought out. That's just me, though, he was widely popular with everyone I knew.

RIP, Harvey Pekar. You made your mark on a generation and have earned your rest.

(BTW, I loved one obit's image of him running around at a comic book convention complaining loudly about having no donuts. It was completely in character with what little I know of his work)

5. This is the FOX method
I report. You decide if it actually happened. I'm pretty sure Mr. Pekar is dead, having read it in a couple of places now. The LA Times seemed the most credible source.
