Earth is much younger than previously thought

Researchers have calculated that the planet could have taken far longer to form following the birth of the solar system 4.567 billion years ago than scientists have previously believed.

By comparing chemical isotopes from the Earth's mantle with those from meteorites, geologists at the University of Cambridge claim the planet reached its current size around 4.467 billion years ago.

1. I know it's younger. Palin told me it was only 6,000 years old!
And Pailn knows more than al the scientists and astronomers in the history of mankind because she has the Bible and rejects all science.

2. That means that life arose pretty quickly
once the great bombardment ended and the crust cooled sufficiently that new life wouldn't be incinerated immediately.

3. Wow, the oldest solid matter on earth are 4.4 billion-year-old zircon crystals that indicate....
...the presence of liquid water in their isotopic signatures. So that is only 67 millions years from Earth reaching it's full size to the formation of the oceans.

5. That's some fascinating shit.
Anyone that believes that ancient scripture is a guide to the earth's geological history has zero credibility on other issues as well.

6. 4.467, not 4.567 ?
so a 10% adjustment in the estimate?

I don't see this as a big deal but any expansion of knowledge is a good thing.

8. I haven't seen anything like that in my newly approved
Texas textbook. It does say the earth is alot younger though.

10. So the Earth owes me 100,000,000 returned birthday gifts?

I knew I couldn't trust "Mother" Earth, because who would then be the "Father"? Next on Maury!

11. The center of the earth is molten iron,
and every atom of this iron is a result of a supernova, thence collected here somehow. And every atom of iron in our hemoglobin molecules is from some long-ago starburst.

I like to think about that, and the limits of our knowledge that keep moving.
