Good time in Maine for Obama, good news on spill
<snip>

"Good news for President Barack Obama from the Gulf of Mexico and a good time for the first family on vacation in Maine.

The focus for the Obamas — the president, along with first lady Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha — on Saturday was Acadia National Park, a 47,000-acre gem that brackets this upscale summer resort.

From the Gulf Coast came word that BP was encouraged near the end of a two-day trial run of a massive cap on its busted oil well — there were no signs of new leaks and oil was being kept out of the water."

BP: No evidence of new leaks in capped well

"BP found no evidence that oil is leaking from the busted well into the Gulf of Mexico as the experimental integrity testing continues.

"We are feeling more comfortable we have integrity," BP vice president Kent Wells told reporters during a Saturday morning technical briefing. But Wells cautioned that the test is not over. "We will keep monitoring and make the decisions as we go forward."

There has been no decision yet on whether BP will reopen the cap and allow oil to once again spew into the water when the test period ends later Saturday. The test could also go beyond the 48-hour mark.

"We are encouraged at this point," Wells said. "The longer the test goes the more confidence we have in it."
