Driving and drugs don't mix....
We got to see firsthand what driving while being drug impaired looked like. Non prescription drugs.... Woman 3 cars behind ours fails to stop, hits the car ahead of her carrying a 45 year old man, 2 young children and a dog, that car in turn hit a civic carrying an elderly couple, the elderly couple hit our vehicle. The person that caused the accident and the elderly man were transported to the hospital. It could have been far worse, but it's bad enough.

Excluding the pain of course, the estimate is 983.00, we have a 1000.00 deductible, and the party at fault has no insurance at all. My children and I thankfully were not in the car but my husband was. We had planned a vacation starting tomorrow, now we won't be going. Honestly I just wonder how people can think these drugs don't impair their driving when some clearly do....

1. When my father was in an accident like that, the first person...IE the last one hit
in the chain reactions sued EVERYONE behind them in the chain..including my father..who was caught in the middle, and seriously injured.

I think they may have collected from every insurance company.

2. I wondered if we could go after the insurance company of the car that hit ours I feel terrible about
it though... on the one hand, they did hit us, if they had left plenty of room they wouldn't have, but it was the woman who caused the whole thing. My husband who left 2 car lengths between him and the car ahead of him did NOT hit the car ahead of him....

I'm grateful it's not awful and my Husband will feel better in a few days but we've lost a vacation and are out the cash for the repair, no fault of our own.... I for one am glad there happened to be coincidentally an unmarked state trooper who saw the whole thing and took over the scene, apparently it was a madhouse with so many cars and so many people and so many transports and wellness checks...

4. I talked to the detective a few hours after the accident, initial toxicology came back
I'm assuming it will be included in the charges they press.... We'll be receiving paperwork tomorrow or Monday. This is one lousy way to start a weekend, and I have to say if my husband is in this pain I'm really concerned about the children in the first car that was hit.. they're just kids, they were young apparently, less than 10... kids don't deserve this kind of muscle pain, yeh, it goes away, but they're just kids :(

7. When you say "non-prescription," do you mean like cold or
allergy meds (over the counter drugs), or do you mean illegal drugs?

8. I didn't get the impression it was cold medicine as
they're pressing charges, but maybe they'd press charges with cold medicine... maybe due to privacy it won't even indicate the actual drug in the report we get... doesn't much matter, as someone said, prescription or not, even just thinking, they could have had a drink, doesn't matter why they were impaired, they were impaired enough to cause a 4 car crash, and they have no insurance... big problem.... we had a thousand dollar deductible :( I guess I figured we'd never be hit by an uninsured motorist, and if we caused the accident then we should cough up the deductible due to our own negligence... I am worried about those kids in the first car hit though :(

5. Does a prescription even matter?
If you're on something that can mess with your driving, then you shouldn't be driving, prescription or not.

6. Absolutely agree... it doesn't matter what drug it was, she was impaired just as a drunk driver
would be, I guess there's not much of a difference at all, the result is the same, she could have killed someone... including herself... we're lucky on the one hand, out of luck on the other.
