CBS News reported today that Michael Aaron Lay, an aide to (the unmarried) Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), was arrested on voter fraud charges.

The indictment charges that Michael Aaron Lay, 26, illegally cast his ballot in two 2004 Congressional primary run-offs in which McHenry was a candidate. The charges indicate that Lay voted in a district where it was not legal for him to vote.

At the time Lay was listed as a resident in a home owned by 32-year-old McHenry but campaign records indicate Lay's paychecks were sent to an address in Tennessee. McHenry won the primary by only 86 votes. According to Gaston County, North Carolina District Attorney Locke Bell, Lay was indicted on Monday, May 7 by a local grand jury.

2. No, no, no. Voter fraud cases only involve Democrats!
Ask the FBI agent who got Ann Coulter off.

3. He wasn't just an Agent, he was a Supervisor...when did a
Supervisor ever get involed in somewhat trivial stuff like that?

Compared to the crimes the FBI must look into, it seems like voter fraud should be pretty low on the list for an FBI Supervisor...methinks there is more to this than meets the eye. It is still up to the DA in the District to file charges, but I wonder if he has the guts...:(

6. That's what I read as well...if that is the case, this guytcould be
out of a job, and the case should be re-opened immedately.

Even if it was one date, the whole situation is now tainted. I'm not gonna say that Coulter is guilty, that is for the court to decide, but this raises some serious questions as to how an investigation took place.

Just like it was being said, the DoJ can't look biased in any form, it makes a surefire set up for collapse if one can't at least think there is some propiety in the Dept.

It just isn't Gonzo, it's permeated through the whole system...there may need to be a purge after this joke of an administration crawls out of OUR WH.

5. Well, if that doesn't add a whole new dimension to this little video...
Barney Frank kicks Patrick McHenry around the House floor

or not. Maybe I just like watching the little closet case getting schooled by the big boys.

7. You can bet McHenry was privvy to this wrongdoing ... no way he escapes a subpoena...
It just goes to show you that these rightwing truth and morality guardians of family values have no integrity whatsoever.

No way he could not have known this was going on with the financial records being reported.

If there is any justice, he will go down as aiding and abetting these violations of the voting law.
