UPI

Thieves allegedly took an estimated 3,000 laptop computers from the Florida warehouse of a military contractor, police said.

The thieves arrived by car at iGov Technologies in Tampa, a contractor for the top secret U.S. Special Operations Command, and broke in through the roof, the St. Petersburg Times reported Monday.

The heist took place during a 9-hour period on March 6 -- a Saturday, when no one was around. The intruders loaded up two semi-trailer trucks with the computers and other equipment, police said.

The Times said the details of the alleged burglary came to light only recently, when a sheriff's detective, having notified the FBI, requested a search warrant in Hillsborough County Circuit Court to find phone records for one of the suspects, which he obtained on June 23.

~snip~

Based on the phone information, the FBI and the Miami-Dade Police Department said they found 1,911 items of the stolen goods in a warehouse in Miami. A SOCOM spokeswoman said the laptops contained no sensitive military information.

1. This is what happens when
the elite creates an underclass.
You get a black market.
I think the ongoing economic distress is in the process of creating two economies, politically, morally and materially.
There are the exchanges among people.
And then there is the transfer of national wealth to corporations and wealthy individuals.
We are at the mercy of a nomenklatura, and the only thing we can do is what the Soviet people did-- create countermarkets and an underground economy.

4. I guess they didn't want to pay for a Rent-A-cop.
They broke in and were there for 9 hours and nobody was monitoring anything? What kind of security is that, your average corner convenience or liquor store has better security than that.

5. Important unaddressed question:
Was this just ("just" :eyes: ) a hardware theft?

Or was there any software or data loaded into these laptops that we should be concerned about as a separate matter?
