1. Yep, hopefully its not too serious.. but this is not good news.
really makes you wonder if BP is capable of getting this done. The sad thing is we are basically at their mercy.. no one can just go in there and take over. But still hoping this somehow works out.

10. Why does anyone believe that "no one can just go in there and take over"?
They are NOT the only people on the planet who understand the situation, and they are far from the only ones with the equipment and expertise to deal with it. I'm sick to death of this idiotic talking point that nearly every American seems to have swallowed. They're compromised to begin with by their corporate obligations to stockholders. They've admitted themselves that they are poisoning us all with Corexit so that the oil will sink out of sight (killing more of the ecosystem and becoming unrecoverable). Their priority is to minimize damage to their image and keep operational costs as low as possible-NOT to do whatever needs to be done to fix this and clean up the mess!
THEY SHOULD NO LONGER BE IN CHARGE!!!!

13. +1000!
thank you! I think of this every day and can not comprehend how the US government can let these robber barons destroy our world right before our eyes and with tax breaks to boot! In a real democracy/republic BP would have been stripped of all rights to be any where near the DH site, and be forced to sit on the sidelines and watch the total damages in billions tic away daily while an honest effort to stop the disaster was conducted. Then of course comes the frog march of Tony &co.

sigh..... :(

2. That's what many have figured. The oil is coming from more than one place.
...... And perhaps BP has known this all along and these "capping" efforts are Kabuki Theatre.

4. I don't pity BP, but I hoped this would stop the disaster.
I lived in St. Pete for a while and this calamity really makes me sad. The Gulf was so full of sea life and now it's all trashed. The beautiful beaches and birds trashed. It reminds me of the sadness I feel when I look at the chopped up mountains here in West Virginia. WTF, have we done to our world?

7. You get used to it...eventually....
....when you realize that humans are an infection that the earth has? Humans will make the planet very sick...but they won't kill the biosphere without killing themselves. In that there is hope?

Please enjoy the unfolding tragedies...and take the bitter with the sweet.

Like a bacteria or a yeast...humans aren't very bright....no wonder they keep looking for intelligent life forms.

6. Surprise surprise surprise.
There was a vocal contingent on DU the other day applauding BP and the "new cap".

I made the comment that I didn't believe a word they (BP) said and was told I shouldn't think that way.

I hope people take a look at the pics in another thread on this page and see what this criminal company and our government are doing to the wildlife and the Gulf environment.

9. I suppose that we'll continue to hear the talking point that BP is the only group
of blunderers on the planet who can fix this and protect us from their own blundering? Screw them. GET SOMEONE ELSE ON THE CASE.

19. There will be soon enough...
when Exxon/Mobil buys BP outright the true destruction of the gulf and it's residents may begin. (not to say it's not being thoroughly destroyed now)

15. I keep saying this- when the top kill failed that meant leaks at the top
So none of these idiotic "plans" to stop the leak by capping it will work. Only the relief wells have a chance, because they are going to the base, 15,000 feet down.

right, this is a smokescreen. Whatever oil they pipe up top is for the better, but the only kill chance is the relief wells.

25.  "Everything is going A-OK!........BOOM!".
ayep

There should be a plan D

Build a dam from Florida to Mexico, drain the Gulf and just let all the drilled wells flow freely into a big lake of oil.
That should solve the pressure problem.
