On Cheney and "grave dancing" (warning: graphic)
The above subject line contains a warning lest evidence of the Bush & Cheney government approved torture program offend anyone. Because we wouldn't want to offend anyone's sensibilities by showing them evidence of the war crimes sanctioned by Bush & Cheney without first giving people time to prepare themselves - and a chance to decide if they want to click on the thread or not. To protect them from what they may find offensive or disturbing....or rude...or beneath them...or disrespectful....or lacking in decorum.

Manadel al-Jamadi

11:35 p.m., Nov. 4, 2003. Detainee died during an interrogation by OGA (other government agency - the CIA, in this case), and was placed in the shower area of tier 1, hard site. The body bag was opened so CPL GRANER and SPC HARMON could take pictures of the detainee. No NDRS or ISN numbers, as he was never processed in the system. (Ghost prisoner, hidden from Red Cross, etc.)

U.S. Operatives Killed Detainees During Interrogations in Afghanistan and Iraq

"The ACLU has previously released autopsy reports for two detainees who were tortured by U.S. forces in Bagram, Afghanistan, believed to be Mullah Habibullah and an Afghan man known as Dilawar.

""These documents present irrefutable evidence that U.S. operatives tortured detainees to death during interrogations,"" said Amrit Singh, an attorney with the ACLU. ""The public has a right to know who authorized the use of torture techniques and why these deaths have been covered up.""

From 2006

The use of a form of torture known as waterboarding to gain information is a "no-brainer", the US vice-president, Dick Cheney, told a radio interviewer, it was reported today.

From 2008

President Bush says he knew his top national security advisers discussed and approved specific details about how high-value al Qaeda suspects would be interrogated by the Central Intelligence Agency.

Top Bush Advisors Approved 'Enhanced Interrogation'

From 2010

I was a big supporter of waterboarding,” Cheney said in an appearance on ABC’s This Week on Sunday.

"Yeah, we waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed,"- George Bush

Know what offends me? Know what I find disturbing?

Admitted war criminals bragging about their war crimes because they feel safe and protected enough to do so.

1. This ghoul was responsible for the death of millions, while he lined
his pockets and the pockets of his friends through "connected" contractors like Halliburton. He was the operations manager of the biggest crime syndicate in world history.

"Carmella" Cheney should not be surprised when people are happy to see him go.

6. I very much want him to stand trial. But I'll not begrudge anyone
taking shots at the piece of shit. In fact, I encourage it.

He doesn't deserve anyone's respect. The very idea of showing respect to a war criminal is completely foreign to me.

I want him to go to prison. I don't support the death penalty - not even for Bush and Cheney & the rest. I abhor the abuse of prisoners - any prisoners - and don't find it funny. Spending the rest of his pathetic life behind bars is truly all Cheney deserves.

17. I completely agree.
I'd like him to live long enough to stand trial for his war crimes. But, if he keels over in the meantime, there'll be no complaints from me.

"And I hope that you die
And your death will come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch as you're lowered
Down to your death bed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
Til I'm sure that you're dead"

22. You're welcome, SB.
I just can't work up any offense at jokes about Cheney.....because I haven't forgotten what he is or what he did. His being sick or nearing death doesn't mitigate his war crimes (and other assorted crimes and abuses) - dying doesn't suddenly morph something as foul as Cheney into something better.

His not being prosecuted for his crimes and the damage he has caused has harmed - and killed - thousands upon thousands. People use humor to channel their frustration...their anger....their disgust with it all.

I could hold my tongue and remain silent...and allow some bullshit narrative about Cheney's years of dedication to public service to gain force (and we all know that some will sing his praises instead of telling the truth about him)....but I will not. His family has defended his war crimes...so I can't say I really give a damn about what they must feeling either. They could love their husband/father and not defend his war crimes... but they chose to defend his war crimes as well.

26. Since we were not the only ones
emerging evidence says the British were also involved, good luck on getting the International Court on this.

Both this hoodlum and his pal (and supposed boss) should be in the docket, with a few members of the General Staff... as well as CIA and a few other places in government. And since none of this will happen... this will come to the States... or rather it already is.

You read the story of this parish prison in Louisiana using cages that are 3x3 to house those who are at risk of suicide? As they say... the roost is growing.

too anything, to disrespect a war criminal. If mocking a war criminal is considered improper to polite society then said society isn't polite so much as sanctimonious and pretentious.

I just can't find it in me to be offended by jokes mocking a war criminal. More especially when that war criminal is above the law and enjoys bragging about it. Now that's offensive. His crimes were offensive. Cheney bragging about torturing people is offensive. Cheney not being in prison is offensive.

He is drowning in his own fluids. His lungs are filling up with fluid. Imagine that for a moment. He's getting waterboarded by the universe. It isn't often that a person receives such an apropos way of dying. It actually astounds me with how poetic it is.

The one who pisses me off is Bush the Lesser - he's going to die with early onset dementia. He won't have a clue. His family will suffer and there's something to be said for that, but he, himself will be as oblivious as ever. Not fair.

You're keeping the whole situation in its proper perspective. I won't say a prayer for his family when he's gone, either. They enabled his sinister behavior.

I can't work up any sympathy for him. I want to see him in prison. I don't support the death penalty, so I'm OK with him spending the rest of life in jail. Don't rightly care how long that might be either. His family has repeatedly defended his crimes.

People watched for years while Cheney and the rest broke law after law and committed abuse after abuse and we have been demoralized as a nation because of it. That he and the others haven't been prosecuted is insult to injury for the victims of their crimes.

If he dies without being held accountable then he would have gotten off easy.

57. American are too often shielded from graphic evidence of our own bad
behavior. IMO the images you posted should not require warning or apology, thanks for caring enough to put them forward.

The absolute _least_ one can do is bear witness to the wake the US leaves as we bumble around the planet pretending we are better than everyone else! My opinion as little as it matters.

Anyway...

62. I must admit that the warning commentary was sarcasm and didn't really have to do with
DU rules. (though the rules do ask that we let people know when something is graphic). I agree with you that people shouldn't be shielded from these crimes, though they too often are...

In my opinion, people can be offended by jokes about Cheney's health or they can be offended by what's truly offensive....Cheney's crimes. I'm offended by the crimes and lack of prosecutions. But that's just my opinion and it's only worth what any opinion is worth..

I would never do to Cheney what he has done to others...but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend through some phony respectful silence that he isn't what he is...a war criminal. His being sick doesn't change that. Cheney was a piece of shit before his latest episode, during his latest episode, and he's still a piece of shit.

60. Excellent thread. I had hoped he would one day
face the international court. There will always be great shame and negative political blow-back as a result of our
non-action toward these criminal, no doubt about it.

With that said, Cheney nor Bush will escape their true legacy, I don't care how many fucking dumb books filled with lies are written about them.

Neither will ever be cleared, never.

I'm going to copy over one my posts from a different Cheney thread:

Who would mourn the death of a cancerous tumor? Not I, that's for certain.

There are deaths that ought rightfully be celebrated. I number Dick Cheney and Henry Kissinger among those.

There are carriers of pure evil among us. When one of them passes, it is indeed a cause for celebration. Not that their passing will eliminate human evil, yet the loss of any single carrier is a net win for humanity.

To celebrate the death of a vehicle for evil is an act of affirmation of our better selves, imo. When such psychopaths attain as much power as Cheney and Kissinger have, they inhibit our collective progress toward a humane, peaceful, and sustainable future on this earth.

It is right and just to celebrate the passing of such monsters. They made their choices freely.

sw

I fully agree with you that he belongs in prison. Unfortunately, given the unlikelihood of that happening, I'll make do with grave dancing -- with no apology and no shame.

64. What kind of a sick, diseased person would pose with a dead body like that?
The people posing in those pictures are more evil than any of the people we are fighting. And the evil, soulless thug Dick Cheney is the most evil piece of scum on earth. Both Bush & Cheney need to stand trial for war crimes and then be thrown in prison for life, along with the rest of their regime of evil thugs. Cheney should be kept alive using any means until he is tried, convicted and then thrown in prison.

Hell, I'd even like to see all the dimwitted morons who blindly supported Bush & Cheney and their immoral wars and torturing of human beings also tried for being stupid, ignorant and soulless.

Drag them to court on life support if we have to...

But to just let them go free? Allowing them to live out their lives as if no crimes were committed? Beyond offensive.

Graner is still in prison. Harmon got 6 months. The officers? Only 1 charged and he was cleared. The people that implemented the torture program? Still walking around free.

75. There are no punishments for the powerful and rich
Edited on Thu Jul-15-10 07:44 PM by AnArmyVeteran
Look at the fine the SEC gave to Goldman Sacs today. It was about 550 million. But it was a settlement that allowed Goldman Sacs to pay the fine without admitting any guilt. So all those Wall Street criminals who defrauded thousands of people won't spend a day in prison. If you stole ten bucks you could end up in jail. A guy in California was sent to prison for life for stealing a candy bar. It was his third strike in the 'three strikes and you're out' program. Why aren't there similar laws for the rich and powerful, or to all executives in corporations? Why aren't criminally minded sociopaths like Tony Hayward put in prison for life for destroying much of the Gulf of Mexico? Why do we allow corporate leaders to be virtually immune to any personal liability?

The damned inept, corrupt media was touting it was a huge fine against Goldman Sacs but a half million dollars is nothing to a criminal organization that made 13 billion in the first quarter of this year alone. Just how do they make that much money? They certainly aren't creating a product. They are just stealing it.

If we had a real 'justice department' all of those people who were behind the fraud and ALL the leaders of Goldman Sacs would be rounded up, handcuffed and thrown in a prison for life. We need to change the laws but since criminals like on Wall Street OWN our representatives they will always be able to do whatever they want without fear of any real punishment. I bet the Goldman Sacs criminals are all laughing right now in their mansions at how inept the justice system is.

How many people would steal trillions knowing they would only have to pay a paltry half billion dollar fine?

I agree with you. Cheney should be kept alive on life support so he could be convicted and then be kept alive while in a 6 x 6 foot cell. I am sick and tired of the rich and powerful ALWAYS getting away with crimes.

Justice can be bought or modified as to not offend those with power. Saying "no one is above the law" might make for feel-good speeches but it just isn't the reality.

His minions would gather around and support him and sing his praises. He would be given a podium from which to shout his ugly words.

I believe that a quiet, unwitnessed disappearance would be so much worse punishment for him....no adoration, no final speech, no martyrdom. Just gone....................and hopefully forgotten.

Every single one of them told the same story: They lived through their lives but as "the other person" - they exerienced the feelings of every person they had done good or harm to. I think when Cheney, Rumsfeld and others like them die they will have to live through the pain of every single one of the many millions of people they have caused to suffer.
