The Department of Defense (DOD) has selected Missouri to host a National Guard Homeland Response Force. Ten Homeland Response Forces will be located across the nation in each of the ten Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regions.
“I am very pleased Missouri will host a National Guard Homeland Response Force. Keeping Americans safe is our number one priority, and this new Homeland Response Force is part of DOD’s efforts to improve emergency response,” said Congressman Ike Skelton (D-Mo).
The creation of the Homeland Response Forces is a part of DOD's larger reorganization of its domestic chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high yield explosive (CBRNE) consequence management enterprise, initiated during the 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review. This reorganization will ensure DOD has the ability to respond rapidly to domestic CBRNE incidents while recognizing the primary role that the governors play in controlling the response to incidents that occur in their states.
