The TV show COPS and AZ 1070

I was surfing past COPS the TV show last weekend and an officer was talking to a suspect who they found in a company car and the suspect didn't work for that company. During the course of questioning the officer asked him if he was a citizen. I was surprised. Did anyone else see that? Are there other states asking that question without all the publicity AZ is getting? Seemed the officer knew it was not a problem to ask since he was on TV doing it. I thought that was interesting.

1. Can't the cops ask whatever they want?

They can ask but you have the right to answer or not...

I'm in no way trying to support this officer's questioning.

2. They can ask now. Under SB 1070 they ask you to PROVE you're a citizen or RA

by means of documentation (passport, birth certificate, green card).

HUGE difference.
