2 officers out of jobs in wake of repeated Tasering of woman-She called them
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 04:49 PM by RamboLiberal
Janice Wells called the Richland Police Department when she feared a prowler was outside her clapboard house in the rural west Georgia town.

The third-grade teacher had phoned for help. But within minutes of an officer coming to her backdoor, she was screaming in pain and begging not to be shocked again with a Taser. With each scream and cry, the officer threatened her with more shocks.

"All of it's just unreal to me. I was scared to death," Wells said in an interview with the AJC. "He kept tasing me and tasing me. My fingernails are still burned. My leg, back and my butt had a long scar on it for days."

-----

The details of the altercation between Wells and the officers have been fodder discussions in the two towns, which are only 10 miles apart. Some have speculated there was a racial component to the altercation between Wells and the policemen; Wells is black and the officers are white.

Too many cops now use tasers like cattle prods.

4. Ahhhh, I see.
The wrong color.
The wrong social class.
No surprises here.
I think these "police" should face federal charges-- violation of civil rights.

5. Wrong social class?
Seems to me elementary school teachers and police - both public servants - are in the same social class. Wrong color, well, that unevens the playing field, and perhaps wrong sex, too. But socially, in terms of class, their status is be societally equivalent.

7. In a police state, the police is one social class above the other public servants
Who do you think is more important to the rich? A police thug that guards his property?
Or a teacher that teaches the slaves?

11. Ah. I get it now.
Not sure I'd classify this incident as being entirely eligible as a police state since the offending officers are gone from the force due to their actions. In a true police state, they'd have been rewarded and eventually promoted. These guys sound like rednecks on a power trip - one shared by many individual police officers, no doubt, and even police departments. But not all police departments are wholly bad. The fact that they don't work there anymore means this situation is not from the Police State Handbook.

Now if this was in Arizona and the woman was Latina, I'd absolutely agree with you that this incident was the result of a police state.

2. Of course they're aren't out of jobs
one of them they specifically mention as working for the Sheriff in another county.

Don't you love that police departments will hire people with strong accusations of brutality against them?

8. It'll happen again, for sure, but at least this lady's going to get a nice retirement fund.
I can't imagine a jury is not going to award her damages, considering she's got another cop on her side.

9. The supeiors to the officers should be fired and the officer should be shot!
I'm sick of officers abusing their powers and lying.

15. Hopefully you mean shot with a taser.
That would be a good karmic adjustment.

13. Yep, they're out of their jobs for all of about a week.
Then they'll just get hired somewhere else. Possibly for more pay since they're experienced LEOs.

Here's a weird thought: Maybe all these police brutality incidents aren't a whole lot of police, but the same 20 or 30 bastards that are just moving around.
