Can a site founded as the opposition
to rally the troops to combat a group be transformed into an advocacy coalition to foster positive change?

Why or why not?

And this is a serious question, so please try to limit the snark and invective.

2. Since the opposition is still pretty much in charge, of course.
After all, the ship of state is enormous and its rudder is tiny, so it takes a tremendous amount of effort to turn the sucker around. Winning one election won't change its direction overnight, or even within a few years. It will likely take a decade or more.

Plus, that iceberg is still out there and we're getting closer.

3. Think of it this way:
...Things rarely turn out well when revolutionary soldiers transition into the police force.

4. Who are you trying to rebrand?
If BP can rebrand their image to green (and that is what they are trying to do) then you can rebrand anyone.

Watch BP over the next year. If they are successful, then the answer is yes.

5. Is the Democratic Party considered a site?
Democratic Underground is not just an "opposition site". It is a site to promote Liberal and Democratic ideals and oppose Conservative and wing nut ideals as well. It is who we are.. I will always oppose unjust actions and legislation, just as I will always support and applaud Liberal actions and legislation..It is who I am..

6. It depends on the focus
If the focus is in changing issues and not simply advocating blindly the people now in power, then yes it can. I believe it could be great.

But if the focus becomes excusing and defending the actions of people because they are part of the same party, even though we condemn them 2 short years ago, well... that just makes them hypocrites.

We fought long and hard to get a Democratic Majority in DC. If we let up now and just applaud their deeds, then frankkly what good is that?

I continue to say: This is not a sport, it is not a game of winning elections. What is supposed to matter is what thos people, who we give so much money and power to, do with that money and power. If we do not regulate them, they will become corrupt very quickly.
