BP claims progress on new cap as oil spews in Gulf
<snip>

"Oil was spewing largely unchecked into the Gulf of Mexico as BP crews claimed progress Sunday in the first stages of replacing a leaky cap with a new containment system they hope will finally catch all the crude from the busted well.

There's no guarantee for such a delicate operation nearly a mile below the water's surface, officials said, and the permanent fix of plugging the well from the bottom remains slated for mid-August.

"It's not just going to be, you put the cap on, it's done. It's not like putting a cap on a tube of toothpaste," Coast Guard spokesman Capt. James McPherson said.

Robotic submarines removed the cap Saturday that had been placed on top of the leak in early June to catch the oil and send it to surface ships for collection or burning. BP aims to have the new, tighter cap in place as early as Monday and said that, as of Sunday morning, the work was going according to plan. BP hopes the capping operation will be done within three to six days."

2. You can see the progress yourself, if you would only bother to look

5. Agree with you and thanks for posting that link...
Thank god for the everyday people who are working so hard to help in this calamity.

We stand up for the soldiers asked to fight in wars, and I think we should clearly differentiate between the engineers, ROV operators, and any others who are tasked with the fix-up vs our anger at the BP mentality of compromising safety for $$ saved.

I am sure we do think positively about the every-day people very hard at work but sometimes in our fury with BP, we sound like we don't care about the workers tasked with cleanup.

6. The transition spool has been fitted, albeit loosely
The alignment pins and cables appear to have worked.

7. I see death.
And I only have seen a fraction of it, since they are using Corexit to cover up the crime.

You keep on believing though...

8. I agree, death is all around the Gulf,
and I wonder, frankly, if Obama will become known as the president that didn't stop BP from using Corexit...

That said however, I am just so rooting for this arrangement to be completed..

Why? Because finally there will be a better monitor of the amount of oil BP's blowout is actually spilling into the Gulf.

3. Engineers, technicians and rough necks are busting their ass 24/7.
Of course they are outnumbered by the people who only criticize. Are you one of them?
