Former ACORN employee sues O’Keefe and Giles
I say it's about time!

A former ACORN employee in San Diego who lost his job after being filmed giving advice to "ACORN pimp" James O'Keefe is suing the amateur videographer and his partner, Hannah Giles, San Diego CityBeat's Dave Maas reported Friday.

Juan Carlos Vera was one of a number of ACORN employees who in the summer of 2009 was secretly filmed giving advice to O'Keefe and Giles, who were posing as a pimp and prostitute with plans to bring underage prostitutes to the US from Latin America.

In a lawsuit (PDF) filed in a California court this week, Vera argues O'Keefe and Giles broke the law when they taped their conversation inside the ACORN office. California is one of about a dozen states where conversations can only be recorded if all parties to it agree. Vera is seeking $75,000, plus unspecified "special damages."

San Diego CityBeat reports that California Attorney General Jerry Brown cleared Vera of wrongdoing in a report earlier this year. Brown found that, though Vera appeared sympathetic to the "pimp and prostitute" during the taped meeting, he immediately notified the police of the conversation. Brown's investigation also found that the O'Keefe videos were "significantly edited."

14. It wasn't just Republicans. They were aided and abetted
by a majority of Democrats in Congress. And to date, not one of those Democrats has apologized, despite the number of investigations that proved the whole scam was a stunt. Nor have they addressed the reason why they voted to pass a law that has been judged to be unConstitutional.

I have to say knowing that only a small number of Democrats are actually familiar enough with the Constitution to have raised the issue before the vote, doesn't give me much confidence in most of them. Considering their oath of office spells out that their job is to defend the Constitution, I am seriously disillusioned by almost all of them.

Thanks though, to Rep. Jerry Nadler for raising the Constitutional issue and for not voting with Republicans to destroy an organization that did more to help the poor, and to help Democrats get elected than just about any other. It was disgusting to watch it in real time.

Grayson too gets credit for backing Nadler, although he needs to explain his vote for the very bill he later declared to be unConstitutional.

Meantime, the organization was destroyed, and the Rightwing got what the left will never get from them, support in doing that very dirty work, from Democrats. I will not forget that.

Republicans would have a much harder time doing what they do, if Democrats were not so willing to help them all the time. I'd like to know why Democrats continue to help them even when they are in the majority. Especially on something like this, which was clearly a scam and considering the source, to anyone paying attention. Just disgusting, the whole thing.

10. I am really glad to hear that!
I felt so helpless during the Right wing, Republican, Fox News attack on ACORN.

writing letters, signing petitions, sending emails, calling congress members, sending some money. all didn't seem to help stop the attacks.

I am so glad that some members are suing and I hope others with ACORN do also.

12. Mr. Vera will probably end up settling out of court.
Some Gotbucks Moneybags like Richard Mellon Scaife pays the settlement.

Meanwhile, O'Keefe never admits to wrongdoing, and goes on his merry way as usual, with his "The rules are for the little people" spoiled rich kid attitude.
