One more good report about the World Cup
South Africa shows the world what it can do

In the country’s eight other host cities, things went even smoother. In world-class Cape Town, fans jammed outdoor viewing parties, crowded into clubs and packed the historic V&A Waterfront. Durban, another waterfront town, was likewise festive. And even rugged mining cities such as Rustenberg managed to become tourist destinations for a stretch.

In the meantime, people poured into game reserves or took extended safaris. Cape Town’s Robben Island museum was booked days ahead of time. The whale-watching boats and great white shark cage-diving companies couldn’t keep up with demand. Other fans just kicked back with some homegrown wine and watched one of Africa’s magnificent sunsets.

Eventually, they all filled a new, state-of-the-art stadium to cheer, blow horns and, at times, cry in sporting agony.

The only thing more impressive than the scenery was the people. South Africa is a divisive place where life isn’t easy for many. For a month, so many people put aside differences and difficulties and embraced the once-in-a-lifetime moment of hosting this event.

1. I am so happy and so proud....
One of the guys who works for me is from Tanzania, and I told him 6 months ago that South Africa would throw a party that the world would embrace. And that's exactly what's happened.

Here's to a thrilling game tomorrow that comes right down to the final minute.

South Africa knows how to pitch.

To quote BBC pundit Alan Hansen: “The best thing about this World Cup so far has been the atmosphere in South Africa – all the major tournaments I’ve been to, or played at, pale into insignificance in comparison.” And as Jerome Valcke pointed out (only partly tongue-in-cheek), the country will be Plan B for every succeeding World Cup.

Yes, all other major tournaments PALE into insignificance.

6. You do realize that a few of those stadiums
were RENOVATED and that this gave JOBS to people in the contruction trade?

This poured a LOT of money into the country.

But hey. we have quite a bit of ignorance here. as well as people living WITHOUT electricity...

Go on, try to open your eyes to American POVERTY.

IN the richest country of the world we have MEDICAL FAIRS to take care of poor and middle class who have not seen a doctor in five years... and we have held international events too.

10. Sport is doing it for SA
it is uniting the country. That is the power of Soccer...

Me, on the other hand, went to a local sports port that sells jerseys. Well not for soccer. The local employee said... "we don't sell Jerseys for that pretend sport..."

SO I turned and on my way out I retorted...

That's good to know... at least Soccer does not do urban planning. Move a star and Cleveland loses 48 Million and people will go without jobs. You keep your jerseys...

He just happens to have the same name.

I guess you know that Robben Island was where Mandela was jailed.
