Jay Leno may have the show, but Conan has the Emmy nomination.

"The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" — and not "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" — is among the nominees for the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series Primetime Emmy.

TBS, which will air Conan's new show beginning in the fall, began a campaign last month to have Conan's previous work on "The Tonight Show" nominated for the Emmy.

The New York Times' Bill Carter wrote in June: As incongruous as it may be to have a cable network urging an award for work done on a broadcast network, that might be topped if Mr. O'Brien does score an Emmy nomination. He would then be a prominent part of this year's award ceremony, which will be broadcast Aug. 29 -- on NBC.

1. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy

Nothing against Jay Leno - his wife is a saint, and Leno has often been generous to a fault. But Conan? He's got the X factor here.

The second-quarter (April through June) ratings for “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” have hit their lowest level since 1993, the year CBS launched “The Late Show With David Letterman.”

Two weeks ago Letterman and Leno tied in the 18-49 demo for the first time since Leno returned to “Tonight” earlier this year.

In addition, the first 17 weeks of 2010’s “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” averages in 18-49 well below the first 17 weeks of 2009’s “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien.” (Leno isn’t likely to ever catch up to the 35-week complete-series average for O’Brien’s “Tonight,” which saw its ratings skyrocket when viewers learned he was leaving the show.)"

But between Conan, Dave, Jon and Stephen... Leno will never be #1 again.

5. Nah too soon for Fallon

to take on something that big. Leno will hang onto it prolly for another 3-5 years. Maybe Fallon will be ready by then. Or maybe nobody will give a shit bout the tonight show by then. NBC fucked up again choosing Leno over Conan big surprise. Heh. I know I ALWAYS choose Colbert over Letterman or Leno. When Conan starts i'll prolly watch him from 11-11:30, then Colbert cause I don't care bout the guests usually and DVR Daily Show. :)
