C-SPAN's Washington Journal, etc - What do DUers think?
C-SPAN's Washington Journal is an informative and interesting public interest show. I watch it live when possible. It runs from 7AM EST until 9AM or so, depending on Congress. It can be watched recorded too on their web site.

The show usually discusses pertinent issues in 15-45 minute long interviews instead of the one minute sound bites that we normally get from the MSM. It allows the public to call in, supposedly un-screened, and ask relevant questions on telephone numbers dedicated to Democratic, Republican, and Independents. The callers run the gamut from asking very thoughtful intelligent well spoken to well - much less. I've never been able to get through. I enjoy their shows when they have two guests with opposing views.

The other C-SPAN series shows such as book TV, are very interesting too.

Is anyone aware of a public forum dedicated to discussing C-SPAN? I recollect that there was once a forum on their web site but it is not there now. A C-SPAN public message forum would be helpful where viewers could initiate topics (on left or right), and make and discuss pertinent suggestions, issues, guests, callers, and generally discuss the various shows and how it could be improved. Viewers can send email to C-SPAN but a forum allows public input, sharing of opinions and consensus from others.

1. c-span
I totally agree with your opinion of C-Span programming. Sometimes I squirm at the uninformed callers, but overall, it really increases my knowledge about what is going on. I especially like to hear some of the congressional hearings, live. There is nothing else on television or radio that comes close to the educational value. I don't remember the forum you referred to, but I haven't always had all three spans available. I've never gotten on either!

2. I meant to say public message forum
My comment about a "public forum" was about a public message forum such as DU, where posters can initiate topics or discussions. C-SPAN has a facebook page which is not the same.

I seem to recollect that http://www.c-span.org/ had a public message forum incorporated into their C-SPAN web site, and it would allow viewers to post and discuss anything related to the various shows. Not everyone can call in and offer their opinion and this would serve as a good supplement.

Perhaps the C-SPAN producers didn't care for the candor that such forums illicit.

6. I rarely watch CSPIN live any more.
It's less annoying to pick out segments to watch than wade through all the rightwing jackasses.

5. I love Washington Journal.
I don't get to watch as much, or call in, as my schedule has changed a bit.

Most of the time the TV is on for background noise in my house and it's almost always on C-Span. I love WJ because it gives me a chance to voice my opinion. I always wanted a bunch of Duers to get together and phone bank the show, but I can never get volunteers.
