Democracy Now!, seeks full-time Chief Broadcast Engineer to manage audio and video technical operations.
Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain HD studio and control room, including master control, interconnects, ingest, newsroom automation, post-production, broadcast IT, intercom and aspects of physical plant.
Oversee all technical aspects of the one-hour daily broadcast including fiber inbound and outbound transmissions, tape and server records and troubleshooting problems that arise.
Monitor and assure signal quality.
Manage technical staff.
Design, procure and implement new A/V and broadcast IT systems as needed.
Provide engineering support to production team and key broadcast affiliates as needed.
Fill in production positions as needed
Manage inventory, service contracts and vendor relations.
Maintain comprehensive documentation and disaster recovery strategy.
Qualifications:
3-5 years lead engineer experience preferred, including live TV news.
Experience with several of the following systems: Ross and Cobalt terminal gear interfacing with Dashboard software, Evertz gear interfacing with VistaLink, multi-view systems, video routers including Harris and Extron, RTS intercom matrix, WinCue, robotic camera control and shading, Final Cut, Telos Zephyr, Ross Video Switchers, Harris Inscriber, FORK automation, Octopus newsroom, studio lighting, Sony EX3 field cameras.
Strong management skills.
Well versed in Mac, Unix and Windows operating systems and experience maintaining networks, servers and newsroom software.
Familiarity with online codecs, conversions and distribution is highly desirable.
Innovative problem solver able to handle pressure of live television environment.
Knowledge of Democracy Now! preferred.
Flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Online Outreach & Communications Manager
Democracy Now! seeks experienced online strategist to fill a new Online Outreach & Communications Manager position. Using social networking sites, online ad campaigns, SEO, SEM, email campaigns, outreach to bloggers, online publications and social change organizations, the Online Outreach & Communications Manager will ensure that Democracy Now!’s daily news program reaches the widest possible online audience.
Responsibilities:
Promote daily news content to guests, organizations, listservs, online publications and blogs
Expand viewership through strategic use of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other social networking sites
Maximize opportunities for users to share content from website
Design and implement advertising campaigns including PPC strategies such as Google Adwords
Lead search engine optimization and search marketing efforts
Manage and build email subscriber lists
Ensure that the organization is current with latest online marketing and content distribution trends
Maintain publicity & promotion sections of website
Gather and analyze metrics to improve effectiveness of online communication & marketing
Write and/or edit copy for newsletters, blog entries, press releases, publicity materials, etc.
Supervise department contractors, volunteers and interns
Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge of Democracy Now! content required
3-5 years online marketing experience
Proven experience increasing reach of organizations via online communication & social networking sites
Experience with email list building best practices
Excellent web writing & communication skills
Established relationships with bloggers, online publications & social change organizations
Demonstrated ability to create and manage multiple PPC campaigns and determine landing page content using Google AdWords and other similar campaigns
Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS) to update websites
Fluent with Mac OS X, Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, bulk email programs, CRM applications, Filemaker.
Experience prepping graphics and video for web
Tech and Web 2.0 savvy
Super organized
Experience recruiting and managing contractors, interns and volunteers
