Nominal Democrat Jason Altmire is a lying sack of shit
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 04:41 PM by Orrex
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/07/unemployment-extension-st_n_637487.html">Here's a piece on HuffPo about the ongoing campaign to punish the unemployed, along with a sweetheart of a quote from Altmire.

Rep. Jason Altmire (D-Pa.), after pushing party leaders to trim a domestic aid bill, said that in light of four months of job growth, "At some point you have to take a step back and look at the relative value of unemployment benefits versus people looking for jobs."

Altmire said business owners in his district (he declined to say which ones) complained of hiring trouble because potential workers would rather stay on the dole.

Go fuck yourself, Jason. Speaking as one of your constituents who searches the local job listings eight or twelve times each week, I have a fucking news flash for you: there are no goddamn jobs within a 100 mile radius, you asshole. And you have the sick, cynical nerve to suggest that employers are being hurt by the unemployed? Who the fuck have you been talking to?

Your once and future foe Melissa Hart may have been a wholly conventional Republican lock-stepper, but at least we knew what to expect from her. I have to admit that I was fooled by that little "D" next to your name on the ballot.

So once again go fuck yourself. Since you're so concerned with the plight of the disadvantaged employers during this nightmarish economic horror, I plan to do what I can to make sure that you join the ranks of the unemployed--a sizable fraction of your constituency, you asshole--the next time I get to weigh in on your job performance.

And don't you fucking dare to presume to tell anyone what your constituents are feeling--I guarantee you that I have a better idea of what they're going through than you do.

Go stuff your empty, well-compensated head the rest of the way up your sphincter you worthless stain.

1. No, Mr. Altmire, you don't.
And I'm sure your unemployed constituents would agree with me. PEOPLE NEED HELP AND THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE FEDERAL DEFICIT.

8. Very true.
And it's not as though they can't the funding from somewhere else. How about shaving off five percent of the military budget, for instance?

12. You know what? Perhaps that's how the Democrats should do this.
Say "OK, we'll make it deficit-neutral. We'll take money from the defense budget and just use that."

See how fast Republicans fall all over themselves to go on TV and claim that Obama is weak on terrorism.

6. Not yet--I only spotted the HuffPo article late this afternoon
But I definitely intend to do so.

I may even omit "shit," "fuck," and "asshole," though I can't make any promises about "sphincter."

10. As you're a constituent, I think you might have a real effect on his actions,
so please say it with this in mind.

We ALL thank you!

4. There are a lot of Pubbies in his dist. Business owners tend to be
Pubbie, so that's who he's been talking to. There are probably some unemployed who fall into that catagory, but my guess is that number is VERY SMALL!

I don't live in Pgh. anymore, but I have 5 neighbors who uit their other jobs to take a job driving a school bus because they wanted summers off & they could collect uneployment too. There really are some idiots out there.

5. I accept your interpretation, but it conflicts with all available evidence on the ground
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 05:10 PM by Orrex
I defy Altmire to name three businesses that simply can't manage to fill their dwindling ranks because of these teat-sucking unemployed malingerers.

I've been looking--and I'm sure that my neighbors have been looking--for jobs that simply aren't there. Even if Jason's Conservative business friends are bemoaning the problems of trying to hire people, Altmire should have the sense to know that real people are suffering far in excess of these few troubled businesses.

On edit: You're absolutely right about the high percentage of Republicans in his district. Lawrence County went to the Red candidate in the last three Presidential elections...

9. My cousins still live in his dist. and they always tell me about the Pubs there keep Jason leaning
to the right. I don't believe him at all, and I agree with you that by far the majority of unemployed are desperately looking for a job. At least from what I've been told, Jason couldn't get elected without the Pubbies support, so that's the reason he's talking like a nut.

11. I actually know some Republicans around here who voted for him in favor of Hart
When the nominal Democrat appeals to lifelong, hardcore Republican voters more than does the hardcore Republican candidate, you know that something's messed up.

14. I'll have to ask my Dad about Altmire when we are back this weekend.
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 08:06 PM by madinmaryland
Funny, but he had attended a spaghetti dinner for Ms. Hart some years back. The food was great, but he did not vote for her.

He could not stand Ms. Hart, but he has been ambivalent towards Altmire. I think he figures that Altmire is just about the closest a "D" can get elected in that area. The libralism from New Castle is now long gone. They've been there since the 50's.

15. I'd be very interested to hear what your Dad thinks
The sad thing is that (I believe) this area was hugely unionized not long ago, so you can assume that they weren't going out of their way to vote Republican.

But in the years since the collapse of the steel bubble, things have gone totally to shit around here (economically), so people's fears and prejudices can be easily exploited.

That's probably true for much of post-industrial America, for that matter.
