A novel idea regarding schools
Reading some of the headline news, I thought of something which would likely help out schools in the long run, and would certainly get some approval from the teachers at our public schools.

How about a position like a "bouncer" at schools? The schools would hire someone big enough and intimidating enough that could patrol the classrooms and help to show even the worst of the bunch of punks enrolled there that they aren't so big and rough as they think they are. This way, if there is a bully at the school, this "bouncer" could show that bully that he isn't as tough, and that the bouncer type guy that the bully's ass is grass if he tries to terrorize other students.

The "bouncer" doesn't even have to do anything, really--just be there as a hedge against violence in a school.

Whether this would help out potential shooters or not, I don't have an answer, but the bouncer could be trained to spot potential troubled youths and help them out, as much as keep the bullies to calm down.

I know that teachers have already made the determination that they aren't equipped or capable of keeping things under control in such cases, and this might be the deterrent necessary to make schools a little bit safer for all the students.

Am I nuts, or does this seem like an interesting thought? Whether it is something that can be utilized or not, I have no idea.

1. Can we contract Xe to provide them?
Because, its simply not worth it if a private company isn't making a fortunate off of it.

2. There are already police in some schools.
It is, to put it mildly, a contentious program.

3. So you want vicarious revenge on those who bullied you in school?

4. Me? Not a concern
I just like to think that many of those who have been bullied might welcome someone to take their side.

BTW--my idea was not to actually DO anything to students, but to simply be there as a physical presence. So many teachers can't do jack in their classrooms because they are afraid of the students themselves. An x-friend left teaching for another position in the school system because she had been threatened one too many times with weapons, usually knives.

The "bouncer" would not touch anyone in classrooms, just be around to give the teachers and administration physical backup. I know if I were a potentially psychopathic student, I might cringe to have this huge guy around.

Cops? I don't like that idea at all. That's a very militant stance IMO. The idea I'm thinking of would be the same idea that is in nightclubs, private clubs, bars--in essence whereever there are assholes ruining the "fun" for everyone, this person would be around.

As it happens, I went to an all-girl high school, and it wasn't until my senior year that it became integrated. There might have been some other girls who I disagreed with, but for the most part, bullying was not a real option.

5. Many schools already have security guards in the halls.
Ours doesn't, so I don't know how effective they are. Depends on the school, I guess.

It isn't really that "teachers have already made the determination that they aren't equipped or capable of keeping things under control" as the potential for injury and liability for us to do so.

There have been teachers who have been seriously injured (a few have been killed) trying to defend students from attacks by other students. There have been others who have been reprimanded or worse for breaking up fights, etc.

Many, many times the teachers report potentially dangerous students only to see administrators DO NOTHING to take preventative measures.
