1. No idea if that would work, but what's with the skyline silhouette in the header?
That can't be an accident. :wow:

I'm really just kicking this because I have no problem with them trying anything they can come up with.

4. All we need is 1.21 gigawatts to stop the leak.
And a delorian fitted with a flux capacitor.
Oh yeah... and 88 Miles per hour.

7. It should be expandable to an unlimited degree. It's just attaching more pipes to the main pipe.
I can't see how this isn't being used already as it's so obvious.

8. Uh... no
It makes perfect sense, until one recognizes that we're dealing with 100,000 psi a mile under water. That means you need 50 tons of "push" against each square inch of the cross section of the broken pipe. That's a helluva lot of force, and makes life very difficult. At about 300 square inches of cross section, that makes for 30 million pounds of force, or enough to toss a stack of 750 cars stacked together.

The demonstration in this video is akin to throwing a ball in the air as a proof-of-principle that we can land a man on Mars.

11. No,its not 100,000 Psi at the TOD (The Well Bottom)
Its 13.900 Psi.As you can see in these graphs (Taken Right From the Deepwater Horizon)the Stand Pipe Pressures (SPP Reading) Which reflect the true reservoir pressure.

These are the last Graphs Broadcast form the DH up to the point of the Blowout...

12. You're right - I was off by an order of magnitude
So it could only toss a stack of 75-100 cars or so.

13. Lol,
The reason I posted this graph is that there are so many numbers being thrown around with this disaster...1000 Bbls a day,5000bbls a day,20,000 a day,50,000 a day,100,000 Psi 20,000 psi,at the BOP.in the wellbore,At TOD,Guingunas Gas Bubbles,Lakes of Oil under the GOM,It will spew fer YEARS!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!1!!1!1!1!

(Grabs Hair in Both hands and runs Screaming,Naked out into the Street..."We're All Gonna Die!!!)

If people want the true facts (As best as can be found at the moment) we need to go talk to those who have made a career out of drilling Stupidly Deep Holes in the Earth.

Try "The Oil Drum"...http://www.theoildrum.com/

The Editors of T.O.D...

Prof. Goose is Kyle Saunders, associate professor of political science at Colorado State University.

Nate Hagens has a master's degree in finance and is completing a Ph.D. in Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.

Contribitors...

Heading Out is Dave Summers, a Curators' Professor of Mining Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology.(UMR until last year)

jeffvail is an energy intelligence analyst and former US Air Force intelligence officer. He has a B.S. in engineering and history from the US Air Force Academy and a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law

Khebab has a master's degree in Physics and a Ph.D. in remote sensing. Khebab has been following oil depletion issues since 2004 and maintains GraphOilogy, a blog on Peak Oil. He has been a regular contributor on TOD and TOD:Canada since June 2006.

Robert Rapier has a master's degree in chemical engineering, and bachelor's degrees in chemistry and mathematics. He has 15 years of experience in the petrochemicals industry, including experience with cellulosic ethanol, gas-to-liquids (GTL), and butanol production. He holds several U.S. and international patents, and is currently employed by a major oil company. Robert maintains an energy blog at http://i-r-squared.blogspot.com.

As Well as a Shitload of "Oil Patchers" Drillers,Toolpushers,Roughnecks,Geoligists,Engineers,Deackhands,Enviromentalsts,Uni.Profs, and a bunch of folk (Like Myself) who don't know "Shit From Shineola" about any of this...But wanna Learn.

Do you REALLY trust the MSM to know any of this? Then go ask those who do know.

10. I don't see anything about the hydrate problem being addressed
Admittedly I can't view the video due to my connection. This comment is based solely on what was read in the article.

That said I'll also point out the obvious difference between capturing a few gallons a minute of surface level pressure from a garden hose and 100,000 PSI at 30+ barrels a minute at a depth of a mile.
