Rhetorical cheap shot #433- "Educate Yourself!"
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 03:43 PM by Touchdown
If I'm asking questions, answer them with something I can use. If I don't know what I'm talking about, help out. Otherwise STFU!

It's become a tred on DU to say every time someone doesn't know everything.

... It happens in half of the threads that last longer than 10 posts and is very tired and quite insulting.

You say "Educate Yourself"? Kiss My Ass! ... respectfully.;)

Edited on good "educated" advice!:hi:

1. Respectfully, WTF are you talking about?
Is this about some other thread? If so, that'd be the place for your post, I'd think. We didn't read it, so we have no idea what you're on about.

3. It's not very nice. I'd at least offer what I could to help someone...but
just barking out "educate yourself" sounds snarky...unless that's the point in the first place.

9. I agree, I come here to learn. Folks who point out a link or
possible site to visit to 'educate yourself' are doing a good deed to those of us in need.

"Educate yourself" sounds snarky to me; there can by myriad reasons why someone doesn't know EVERYthing about a subject, and not any of them related to the implied "lazy" or "ignorant".

Each one teach one.

10. I've noticed a couple trends on DU as well...
The first is rude people who play the victim. Yeah I feel bad for you after spending part of a day reading the dozens of posts you made telling everyone who has been circumcised that they are mutilated and sexually dysfunctional. You poor thing.

The second is people emboldened by the new rules to make any snide and rude comments they want. I for one am able to see the irony in a post that in one breath plays the victim because someone had the nerve to tell them to educate themselves, and then in the very next breath says "Shut the fuck up".

While I'm not a big fan of "educate yourself" either, I'm also not a fan of having to do all the leg work for someone who is too lazy to hit Google.

14. I love posts that do what they complain about.
It's an addiction by now.

12. I think the relativity of that suggestion correlates directly to how simple the question is.
Sometimes people ask the same simple question over and over in the thread, proving they didn't read it in the first place. Or sometimes, someone expects to receive an entire four year degree in a three line post, and won't admit they don't understand the subject unless you can give it to them.

Other times, it's just a damned snarky reply.
