3. But wasn't that award from the MMS? The very people who were handing BP
(and others) the keys to to store during the Bush administration?

The dittohead comment makes it sound as though Obama himself decided to bestow this award. I'm not sure a President would even be aware of it.

6. Well I think it was after Obama was elected that they got the award
but you are right we aren't talking Obama decided they were a great company and gave them an award.

2. So?
Bush and Cheney and 30 years of repuke ruin are the reason there isn't much government oversight of deep water drilling. If they're going to whine about an award, they fucking better take responsibility for the mess in the first place.

Cheney's secret energy meetings in 2001 removed much of the regulations that were in place, and the Chimp didn't enforce the rest.

4. if I recall correctly they were celebrating their safety record on the day...
...that the well blew, and BP executives were on the rig specifically to congratulate the crew.

5. As usual, it's a stretch saying it was the Obama administration.
MMS gave them an award and we know how suspect their oversight has been.
It’s probably safe to assume that the Department of the Interior won’t be giving out any more awards soon to Transocean Ltd., owner of the offshore oil platform that blew up and sank in the Gulf of Mexico. Up until last summer at least, the Minerals Management Service (MMS) thought Transocean was doing a bang-up job, presenting the company with a regional Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) for “outstanding drilling operations” and a “perfect performance period.”
