Rand Paul still wants 'underground electronic fence'
except that it won't be so underground and it won't be so electronic. But it will be a fence.

But Paul spokesman Jesse Benton has clarified that the website is wrong -- the fence Paul envisions, while electronic, is not meant to be underground. "That's a stupid word that was put in by whoever is writing for our website and we need to remove it," Benton said.

(...)

But it wouldn't be underground. "Perhaps some of the thermal stuff might be buried, but that's it," Benton said. The electronic fence idea isn't new; it has been tried in other countries, but various proposals floated have been non-starters.

Benton added that Paul isn't necessarily wedded to the fence being electronic. "Rand's priority is to secure the border by all appropriate means," he said. "He supports any kind of fence, whether it's physical or electronic."

1. And just what does that dumb fuck intend to offer as an incentive

to get all Mexican citizens to wear the collars?

Obviously that idiot doesn't know how those fences work.

Republicans sure are stuck on stupid. Libertarians are even worse.

Even a "fence" that operates as a sensor is going to be tripped by all sorts of migrating wildlife. INS agents will be run ragged chasing jaguars, javelinas, and other critters.

The system of cameras at prime crossing spots is the best we've got so far, visual identification done in real time and alerts going out only for groups of illegal migrants.

2. Another option
"Benton added that Paul isn't necessarily wedded to the fence being electronic. "Rand's priority is to secure the border by all appropriate means," he said. "He supports any kind of fence, whether it's physical or electronic."'

That being the case, how about a minefield? Nothing like a few legless corpses to discourage would-be border crossers.

5. What other countries has this been tried?
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 11:28 AM by LiberalFighter
I only recall countries that implement barriers to keep their people in. Not out.

Sticky paper inside fake Taco Bells in the desert. Illegals go in, but they can't come out. When it's full, they transport them back to Mexico.
Edit just in case: :sarcasm:

7. Misleading C/J article .. Should be, Paul flip fops again!!
FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky GOP Senate candidate Rand Paul once objected to building a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border because it would remind people of the Berlin Wall, but now he says he would support it if that's what it takes to stop illegal immigrants from sneaking across. ...FLIP FLOP again RAND!!! .... But in a statement Tuesday he said: "We must build a fence across our southern border. It can be a physical fence, or an electronic fence or a combination. I believe the reality is the electronic fence will work better and be cheaper. But I will vote for any method to put a real obstacle at our border." Does the government pay for this Rand or does a group of like minded citizens band together to build it? Wait that's what government is.... BTW Conway is slowly catching Paul, it would be great if he got some press and some help from the DNC.
