Alvin Greene (SC candidate for the Senate) outlines plan to boost the economy
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 08:45 AM by Lionheart23
In an interview given to the Guardian (UK) newspaper:

GREENE: ""Another thing we can do for jobs is make toys of me, especially for the holidays. Little dolls. Me. Like maybe little action dolls. Me in an army uniform, air force uniform, and me in my suit. They can make toys of me and my vehicle, especially for the holidays and Christmas for the kids. That's something that would create jobs. So you see I think out of the box like that. It's not something a typical person would bring up. That's something that could happen, that makes sense. It's not a joke."

I feel compelled to stress that he was not joking.

2. This guy is not all there
And he is not a "SC elected Senator." He won the primary to run as the opponent of Jim DeMint.

3. Do you have a time machine?
the only election he won was the primary. He has to get elected in Nov. to be Senator.

8. And this guy is going to debate Jim DeMint?
DeMint could actually hurt himself (i.e. he might only win with 65% of the vote instead of 80%) if he is seen as beating up on this childish excuse for a candidate.

10. He has a knack for marketing.
Remember, he won the primary. He probably knows something about something. I for one would buy several Alvin Greenes for the kids and even more for Toys for Tots. Having them ready for the holidays is brilliant!

12. Admittedly, he is the most 'interesting' candidate that SC...

Democrats have fielded in ages. The average clone from the Chamber of Commerce is virtually indistinguishable from his(her) Republican counterpart. Not this guy.

28. actually, not this year
Edited on Thu Jul-08-10 03:53 PM by SCantiGOP
(concerning the above chamber of commerce clone comment, which in normal years would be accurate) I work across the street from the SC Statehouse. One of the big stories this year is that the State Chamber has endorsed the Democrat in the Governor's race. They said we cannot risk four more years like the past 8 with Sanford. One year, Sanford vetoed the entire state budget. Another year, he vetoed 106 bills, and the heavily GOP legislature overrode 101 on them - several were overridden unanimously. The GOP candidate, Nikki Haley, said repeatedly that she would go into GOP districts and campaign against sitting legislators if they didn't back her reform agenda (no public schools, minimum budget, turn down federal dollars). She is shooting back that the State Chamber is....wait for it.....dominated by Democrats and that they are addicted to corporate welfare.
Now, as for Mr Greene, he is mildly retarded. We have a good Green Party candidate, and most Democrats I know plan to vote for him.

30. It's a civil war in the GOP

Bush pretty much bankrupted them, credibility wise, even in their ranks. The libertarians are making their move and though the party establishment might agree with them philosophically they are upturning too many apple carts for these business as usual guys.

The range of political discussion is so narrow in SC, a choice between Raygun and Paul. Haley is a horror but unless a lot of TB's get to the Statehouse this years her election will mean 4 more years of gridlock. Sad state of affairs when the worst of libertarian schemes must be defeated by the Chamber of Commerce types, of either party.

Have you heard of the 'Red Torie' thing? There is a movement among conservatives to out flank the liberal parties from the left. Anti libertarian, anti big business, they see their opportunity in the increasing corporate alliance with liberal parties on either side of the 'pond'. Pure opportunism but given the direction of the current administration they could have a shot.

13. what's the status of the investigation
into this whole mess....

Who financed him.

The precincts with inaccurate numbers - more votes than people, etc...

Who is behind him.

Getting him "disqualified" - because he most certainly isn't QUALIFIED.

29. apparently,
There is no way to get him off the ballot unless he requests it. There is an criminal investigation underway because several months before he paid the $10,400 filing fee he declared himself destitute in order to get a public defender attorney to fight his charge of showing porn to a minor.

South Carolina has open primaries. You don't have to be a Democrat to vote in the Democratic primary.

19. What's Going On In South Carolina? - The Onion
Between the sex scandal that crippled Gov. Mark Sanford, the questionable candidacy of Democratic Senate primary winner and accused criminal Alvin Green, and the rumors of infidelity surrounding Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley, South Carolina has seen a great deal of political upheaval. Here are some of the beleaguered state's lesser-known scandals:

A raid of Varnville mayor Henry Fields' residence uncovered Forrest Gump–themed home sex tapes that make use of props the production left around town back in 1993

Rob Miller, Democratic nominee for U.S. Representative from the state's 2nd District, has been criticized for not wearing the customary Confederate-flag lapel pin

Mayor John Rhodes of Myrtle Beach raising all three of his boy dogs as girl dogs

The state's incumbent comptroller, Richard Eckstrom, has been repeatedly attacked for his use of Arabic numerals

Entire state is under fire from outsiders for voting the corpse of Strom Thurmond into the Senate each election

City councilman George Thurston is accused of acknowledging the existence of North Carolina

Attorney General Henry McMaster has his 8-year-old daughter fill in for him whenever he feels the urge to play some video blackjack

Somehow allowed its state flag to contain one of the most racially charged images in our nation's history

MIGHT AS WELL ADD YOUR TRUE STORY TO THE ONION.

This guy won a democratic primary fair and square? No how, no way. I only wish we'd find DeMint's grubby little fingerprints all over this sham, right before the election. On second thought, what the fuck, let's help get him elected - SC deserves him.
