MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- A Martinsville police officer accused of shocking an unruly 10-year-old boy with a Taser gun will be suspended and placed on probation.
The Martinsville Board of Works and Public Safety on Tuesday approved a 45-day suspension for Officer Darren Johnson. He was given credit for five days already served, and placed on probation for two years.
The board also ordered Johnson to give a written apology to everyone involved in the incident.
Another officer who was accused of slapping the child resigned.
The officers were called March 30 to a day care center where the boy hit, kicked and spit on a caretaker. Police say the officers slapped and shocked the child after he kicked one officer as they tried to restrain him.
A special prosecutor announced last month that neither officer would face criminal charges.
