Iraq blog: A witness to the attack on US troops in Karbala insists the group leader had blonde hair

http://www.iraqslogger.com/index.php/post/1069/Karbala_Hit_An_Iranian_Payback

<snip>

There are a couple of key points that make this incident worth examining closer. The kidnappers knew exactly where the Americans were, did not shoot any Iraqi soldiers or guards on the way in or out. One Iraqi witness insists that the leader of the English speaking group had blonde hair. Even the direction of their escape was towards the Iranian border

5. Iranians are Caucasians, whereas Arabs are Semites, so...
About as likely as finding a blonde Greek -- not too likely but not unheard of.

12. There are a few blond or red-haired Arabs.
But somehow the idea of bleached hair or even using a wig seems a bit more probable.

After all, what says "non-Iraqi" more than blond hair?

And yet a fourth possibility: They find Sudanese, Algerian, Egyptian, Yemeni, etc. jihadis. French citizens have been killed.

If John Walker Lindh had been blond ...

17. Yeah, and some are albinos. Can't say I've ever seen
a naturally blond Iranian or Iraqi, though. But maybe there is that rara avis. Maybe it was a Circassian. Maybe a Bosnian. Maybe it was a dye job. Why does this make the government and the media point to Iranians and, specifically, Iranian government sponsored Iranians?

Are only Iranians sponsored by the Iranian government capable of implementing a cleverly planned and coordinated attack? Nope.

11. Are you suggesting Iranians did it?
Because that would be ridiculous.

did it or, better, that the Iranian government was behind it. I find both ideas highly unlikely.

3. In an AP article
In the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week it said in addition to the soldiers being siezed there was a computer taken.
I wonder what was on that computer and if it was the primary target with the soldiers being taken to provide distraction.

6. Blonde hair. So?
Russian merc? Chechyn, Bosnian, SA, whatever? There are plenty of people out there with specops abilities who will do something like that for the right price.

It tells me nothing, except that the putative leader has supposedly blond hair. Neither does it tell me who was behind the event. Iraq is essentially an anarchistic state. Anyone could be operating there, for any reason.

Remember: There are those who are drawn to war zones like moths to flames. Some of those have skills and experience that they will sell to the highest bidder. Others have their own agenda.

anyone can dye their hair.

I am unaware of the racial composition of Iran, and if it would be possible for this to be true, but if I remember correctly, there are sizable minorities in that country, and some of them probably do indeed have blond hair.

There are two primary explanations for this absolutely odd attack, and quite frankly, from the evidence they are equally possible:
1. Iranian agents who had been specifically trained in English and mimicking an American accent infiltrated the base. This is not altogether impossible.

2. Americans somehow interested in pushing our country into a war with Iran conducted this attack as a pretext for that war.

I doubt an insurgent group would be able to learn to speak English in such a fluent way that they'd be able to get past so many security checkpoints.

I also have to wonder where the vehicles came from, and if they came from Iran, why they were not found out much earlier.

But there is one final question:
If our people had the goal of invading Iran, why not cover these elements up?

Surely, there would be some other kind of attack they could provoke in order to justify an invasion, which would be more convincing.

10. Why in the world would Iran want to promote this? To be invaded?? Please get real.

Who benefits Kelly?

Think about it. Doesn't take rocket science really.

It does however take a desire for the truth.

Who is chomping at the bit to go into Iran?

The Iraqis have been genocided by this Administration.

Do you think the families of Iran want the same abuse inflicted upon them?

8. Gee golly. GMCs, US style camo and weapons,

a well planned "Trojan horse" attack. And blonde hair on the leader which would make him appear more like the friendlies they were pretending to be.

Hmmmmmm.

13. So what, they don't have hair dye in the Middle East?
I agree with the idea that it would make excellent camoflage. Blonde hair, maybe even slap on some makeup to lighten the skin tone, and it would make it much easier for someone to pass as a non-Iraqi. When people see what they're expecting to see, they often don't look much closer.

Lighter skin than mine, blue eyes, light hair.

Arabs are a linguistic group. Muslims are a religious group.
