Texas GOP platform: criminalize gay marriage and ban sodomy, outlaw strip clubs and pornography
Texas GOP platform: criminalize gay marriage and ban sodomy, outlaw strip clubs and pornography

The Texas Republican Party gives a whole new meaning to the word conservative.

The GOP there has voted on a platform that would ban oral and anal sex. It also would give jail sentences to anyone who issues a marriage license to a same-sex couple (even though such licenses are already invalid in the state).

“We oppose the legalization of sodomy,” the platform says. “We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.”

In addition, the platform says that homosexuality “tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit and leads to the spread of dangerous communicable diseases.”

1. Okay - now add a ban on adultery, punishable by public flogging and the wearing of a scarlet letter

2. Oh, and ban divorces too
something as sanctified as marriage should not be able to be undone by mere mortals. Once you tie the knot it must remain tied for eternity, no excuses. ;)

3. Outlawing “sexually oriented businesses” like strip clubs
In Texas? Of all places. AFAIK, Austin is where the "couch dance" started.

4. Interesting-It's apparently a strictly social/religious-conservative platform.
That means they're putting all their eggs in the fundie, anti-sexuality basket. Given the hispanic population up in arms about "immigration reform," all the people who are either already economically injured or scared shitless by the economy, the oil in the Gulf, this somehow doesn't seem to me like a winning strategy. But hey, nobody has ever been dumb enough to hire me as a consultant on these things.

5. Nanny State Republicans
sure do love big government.

Where will the funding come to police and prosecute these "crimes?"

7. Well, for starters, you only enforce them against liberals & other minorities.
That cuts down a lot on that policing and persecuting prosecuting business.

And second, it's not about actually stopping the behaviors. It's about whipping up the fundie droolers and making sure they're motivated to get to the polls.

9. Well, dammit, they ARE for less government.
Less government intrusion on the rich (lower taxes, freedom from responsibility for bad business decisions, etc.).

Can they help it if this requires that they tighten the screws on everyone else?

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

8. If all that was banned, what would conservatives do?
Conservatives 'say' they want less government but they always want to manipulate and control people with punitive laws. I believe "conservatism tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family". Conservatives do all they can to destroy families with their pro-corporate positions and anti-human being positions.

Conservatives make their living performing sodomy on the citizenry.

19. Wouldn't it just be easier to make their own 'city'.
Where they could be all backward and conservative, the GOP is rich why not use that money to make Retro-Land where tomorrow never came and yesterday is today forever.

That would be like the democratic platform banning Prime Rib and Muscle cars.

23. When they say sodomy what do they mean?
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 08:34 PM by RidinMyDonkey
Is it just anal sex, or anal sex between two men? I know waaaay too many people who like their anal sex to let some Texas Republican tell them they can't do it anymore. And everyone loves oral sex.

Also, how is it going to be enforced? Is a cop going to follow you home and tape your butt shut?

Only in Texas.
