We need to see this again. The Christian Fascists Are Growing Stronger
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/06/07-4

by Chris Hedges

Tens of millions of Americans, lumped into a diffuse and fractious movement known as the Christian right, have begun to dismantle the intellectual and scientific rigor of the Enlightenment. They are creating a theocratic state based on “biblical law,” and shutting out all those they define as the enemy. This movement, veering closer and closer to traditional fascism, seeks to force a recalcitrant world to submit before an imperial America. It champions the eradication of social deviants, beginning with homosexuals, and moving on to immigrants, secular humanists, feminists, Jews, Muslims and those they dismiss as “nominal Christians”—meaning Christians who do not embrace their perverted and heretical interpretation of the Bible. Those who defy the mass movement are condemned as posing a threat to the health and hygiene of the country and the family. All will be purged.

The followers of deviant faiths, from Judaism to Islam, must be converted or repressed. The deviant media, the deviant public schools, the deviant entertainment industry, the deviant secular humanist government and judiciary and the deviant churches will be reformed or closed. There will be a relentless promotion of Christian “values,” already under way on Christian radio and television and in Christian schools, as information and facts are replaced with overt forms of indoctrination. The march toward this terrifying dystopia has begun. It is taking place on the streets of Arizona, on cable news channels, at tea party rallies, in the Texas public schools, among militia members and within a Republican Party that is being hijacked by this lunatic fringe.

1. Religion was the downfall of the Roman empire. I'm convinced it will be the downfall of ours.
Not that you know those fuckers Raygun and Bush did enough damage as it is, but this is just one more factor. If the fundies ever got total control of the Supreme Court, we're fucked.

7. Christianity was the downfall of the Roman Empire
They were doing quite well when they were Pagans. They didn't give a crap about what Gods people worshiped, as long as they honored the Emperor as one. (Which, IMHO, was batsh*t crazy anyway, but hey, He's the Emperor.) That's where the Hebrews got into trouble. They refused to honor the Emperor as a God.

4. And I will add the many who laughed
at the early Nazis... just a boy scout like movement.

There are days I wonder if people in this country will wake up to the danger they pose, real dangers, in time... I suspect not.

5. This movement is a real and present danger to our constitution, and
our country. A danger to civil rights, human rights, education, and to people everywhere.

I do not think that it is wise or prudent to ignore this movement or what they are doing. They have taken over the Republican Party and pushed out the Moderates and any who do not subscribe to their narrow view. Sarah Palin is their poster girl. They are anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti- contraceptives, they are anti-feminists, and are against mixing of races...as in inter-racial marriages. They have a very narrow view of Christianity and if you do not agree with their view, you are dangerous and will either be converted or done away with. They want a system of justice based on Biblical laws. They favor child abuse as pushed by James Dobson and Focus on the Family. They are moving towards a theocracy. And it will be as oppressive as the ones set up by the Taliban. They have money and lots of followers who vote as Dobson tells them to vote. They want segregated Christian Schools so they can ram their views and beliefs down the throats of all the children.

8. Republican Gomorrah
After reading that, a lot of things suddenly made sense to me.
Recommended reading to anyone that wants to understand the "logic" of the religious right.
