Disney getting into the McMansion business

What's even more terrifying than spending a week rubbing elbows with sticky tots at themed establishments in and around Walt Disney World Resort? Living there. In a faux-Tuscan McMansion. Well, that nightmare/dream could soon be your reality, provided you have a few million dollars to spare and the desire to live in a community with no soul. Disney has announced plans for a new vacation home development within Walt Disney World Resorts.

The Golden Oak development will be located on the north side of the 40-square-mile Disney complex. Plans include about 450 homes in the $1.5 to $8 million range, two golf courses, and a 445-room Four Seasons hotel. The master plan for the community was created by Walt Disney Imagineering, though no word yet if Mickey Mouse ears will somehow be incorporated into the street signs. Those that buy property in Golden Oak will be allowed to hire their own architects, but Disney must approve builders, exterior building material, and architectural styles. Illustrations on the Golden Oak website seem to suggest that the favored style would be something in the neo/faux Mediterranean vein common to nearly all McMansions. It’s unclear if Golden Oak residents will get free entrance to the park, but there will be a concierge on call, private VIP transportation, and a private clubhouse. Residents will also have access to some of the amenities at the Four Seasons.

5. Yes, the article refers to Celebration. This new community features more expensive homes.

7. pay multiple millions for a home but somebody else must still approve its design?
how pathetic is that?

I guess having lots of money doesn't cure lack of imagination, lack of individuality, and tackiness.
Do people think this will somehow make them "envied"? Will it be some kind of "status symbol"? Am I supposed to be impressed if someone says, "Oh, I live in Golden Oaks at Disney World"? No, I would simply think they were stupider than shit.
