28. This is not uncommon for the USMNT.
They like to give up goals early, then get real good later in the game.

£617,000 per man if they win the World Cup.

35. I guess it's the soccer federation
Not sure - heard the Commie - hard loss but I am glad one African country remains in the last eight. It's important for African football.

37. I lived in Ethiopia years ago - and the Africa Cup was played while we were there
watched some of it from a friend's apartment that overlooked the stadium

I agree - it is good for Africa to continue to have a team playing.

Good for Ghana.

10. I think the English commies forgot that Bill Clinton
was a student at Oxford U. He said Clinton must be becoming a fan of football.

Send this fact to Rush: More Americans bought tickets for the finals than all others outside of Africa.

23. Oxford University is not a hive of football activity
There are several sports you'd be more likely to pick up there before football. Rowing, rugby, cricket, athletics ...

They have done it the hard way - building the base. Their best player Michael Essien couldn't make the world cup because of injury.

31. Ghana are behaving like fannys at the moment.
I've liked them in general through the tournament but their gamesmanship has been pretty risible in the latter stages of this game! Hope you can grab a late equaliser.

41. Well I have said this in the past and I'll say it again.
Until the US can respect the sport by calling it it's name...they will always end up on the failing side---ultimately. I always feel they are stuck playing one game while the rest of the world is playing another and it causes this sort of mental rift.

42. I'll always call it football but I don't really have a problem if they call it soccer.
Edited on Sat Jun-26-10 08:16 PM by malaise
Lack of knowledge re the terminology is way more annoying to me, particularly from folks in the media. To call a draw a tie simply tells me that the person speaking is not familiar with the game.
On the other hand, the attitude to football by some folks in America is hard on their football players because they really play hard and the quality of American football has improved big time.

I think it's unfair to say America is stuck playing one game because they play several sports, but there is this tension with football and the 'exceptionalist' posse.
Please note that outside of Africa Americans have bought the most tickets for the finals.

The good news about America's exit is that Obama won't have to face attacks over his leaving the Gulf crisis to watch America play a game Rush and Beck hate.
