Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer: Most illegal immigrants smuggling drugs
:wtf: is wrong with this woman?

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said Friday most illegal immigrants entering Arizona are being used to transport drugs across the border, an assertion that critics painted as exaggerated and racist.

Brewer said the motivation of "a lot" of the illegal immigrants is to enter the United States to look for work, but that drug rings press them into duty as drug "mules."

"I believe today, under the circumstances that we're facing, that the majority of the illegal trespassers that are coming into the state of Arizona are under the direction and control of organized drug cartels and they are bringing drugs in," Brewer said.

"There's strong information to us that they come as illegal people wanting to come to work. Then they are accosted and they become subjects of the drug cartel," she said.

2. That's it--she's gone completely 'round the bend. You'd think the governor
of a state would get out among the people more but it is increasing clear she hasn't been out in quite some time, poor dear.

She needs a rest--and let's help Terry Goddard give her one!

4. Well Jan - You just said it . "Now is the time to legalize pot is Arizona".
It will keep them pesky illegal immigrants from crossing the border.

7. Having grown up in Arizona
I stil have family there and keep up with what is going on. When this mess lit the political fuse with passage of the bill there was significant--though not majority--support from hispanic voters, As the fallout has raged, much of that has eroded. With this completely idiotic statement, she has hopefully squandered ewhatever percentage of that was left. No doubt the teabag brigade is eating this shit up.... but I am hopeful there are enough moderate Arizonans that Goddard cleans her clock!

13. 3rd dumbest Gov.
although it is a crowded field, I will still award my former Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi the dumbest and Jendal in Louisiana places below my current moronic Governor Jan Brewer. Granted with the likes of Rick Perry in Texas the dubious title is certainly not a clear cut victory.

15. The dimmest governor
may not understand the law of supply and demand. If every illegal is bringing drugs into the state and unloading them, that means the good people of arizona must stay stoned all the damn time. Truly couldn't blame 'em right now.

32. Supply/demand: Bingo. She violates "Conservative" values in so many ways.
Edited on Sat Jun-26-10 09:29 AM by UTUSN
Aren't "Conservatives" supposed to be for capitalism (Supply/Demand), personal responsibility, and self-reliance (not victimhood)?

So, these evil Illegals are just coming and coming to PILE drugs over here, in PILES to tempt hapless, sweet, innocent 'muricans, STUFFING those drugs down 'muricans' gullets, and tangentially to TAKE 'murican jobs. Oh, in fact, them drugs are prolly IN ORDER TO get them 'muricans to STOP WORKING so that Illegals can have their jobs!1 It's SO clear now!1

Because innocent, vulnerable 'muricans are just PREYED upon, have NO CHOICE (and therefore shouldn't have abortions either), and are just victims and irresponsible. Those 'muricans that HIRE Illegals just can't stop their own hands from filling out false accounting and PAYING them.

Rule of Supply and Demand: If the U.S. didn't DEMAND drugs and cheap labor, they WOULDN'T BE HERE!1

Sprinkle sugar on the floor and watch the ants congregate. No disrespect intended to either immigrants or ants, only for the sugar plantation's overseers.

Now if the US made pot legal to grow and use, the drug cartels would have to find buyers elsewhere. And if Americans were willing to pick the fruit and scrub the toilets and wash the dishes, the Mexicans and other economic refugees would have to get busy cleaning NAFTA's absentee owners and overseers out of their homeland.

And, of course, muricans aren't bringing the hammer down on NAFTA, either, or cleaning out their/our own den of absentee owners, so Brewer doesn't have any moral high ground to stand upon, only the backs of those she despises.

Lose, lose. (Well, unless you're an obscenely wealthy absentee owner or their overseer of the local serfs.)

She became governor because Janet Napolitano became the director of homeland security.

11. I hate to say it, but Arizona's current troubles are Obama's fault
My reasoning: Arizona had a perfectly serviceable Democratic governor named Janet Napolitano. When Obama was elected, he chose Ms. Napolitano as his secretary of homeland security.

Admittedly, Napolitano has the brains and chops to be a very good DHS secretary--I would have rather brought in one of these corporate raiders whose specialty is closing businesses because that's what needs to happen to DHS, but if you're going to keep the agency alive Secretary Napolitano is about as good as you're gonna find. The problem is, when Napolitano was taken to the national level, it left the evil Jan Brewer in charge of the state.

14. Well, yes and no. We wouldn't need Napolitano
if we didn't have a virtual barrel of ass-picking monkeys in our legislature. About the only bright spots there are the ones from the central Phoenix area and Pima County (Tucson).

Hate to say it, but if Napolitano hadn't gotten Arpaio's endorsement (and she most assuredly did) she never would have been governor.

But you do have something of a good point there.

The people of that state were not forced to replace her with a moron. They elected JN, so why could they not replace her with someone reasonable?

Arizona - and I do believe Rose became the first female Gov - when that idiot Ev Mecham was impeached in 1972.

25. The Arizona Constitution did it
Napolitano was governor, and Brewer was secretary of state. I looked it up, and the line of succession runs from the governor straight to the SoS apparently without passing through the light governor.

So...yes, they elected Napolitano. Unfortunately, they also elected Brewer.

27. Follow along...
If Obama would have chosen someone else to be DHS secretary--there are a lot of real good retired E-9s out there like Glen Morrell or Raymond McKnight (McKnight could be interesting; that fucking guy has no fear of anything ESPECIALLY pissing off his superiors)--Napolitano would still be AZ governor.

I can see Obama's reasoning: illegal immigration is a huge problem. It's not the ONLY huge problem out there, though.

31. From the DOJ
http://www.justice.gov/ndic/pubs38/38661/swb.htm#Top

Although they note that those who are hired to sneak people across the border in turn pay drug cartels for the right to operate in their territory, they don't make Brewer's claim.

I suspect it is exaggerated. It'd be interesting to know the actual statistic.
