Another MSM fail & it's effect
Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 05:36 PM by jaysunb
I've often wondered how the people of my old hometown (Cleveland) and State (Ohio) could always seem so ill informed and continually vote against their own interest. I know outside the larger cities there's lots of racism and conservative ideology, but there's also a lot of otherwise intelligent people that should know better.

Here's what I believe is a large part of the problem.

Yesterdays Republican obstruction of the unemployment extension bill was thus reported in the Cleveland Plain Dealers online site.

June 25, 2010, 1:32AM

Unemployment benefits extension fails in U.S.
Senate, causing concern for Ohio's jobless

Notice the time (nearly 8 hours after the vote) and the crafty headline: Unemployment benefits extension fails in U.S.
Senate

No mention that the REPUBLICANS almost alone blocked the bill.

Now, I'll bet you're thinking that in the first paragraph or so, the writer will mention how this went down and who voted and how. Wrong.
Brown (D) and Voinivich (R) are mentioned for splitting their vote, but, nary a word about the entire Republican Party refusing to permit an up or down vote, leaving the impression it was, THE Senate.
In a later update this paragraph was added:

The 57-41 vote fell three votes short of the 60 required to crack a GOP filibuster, delivering a major blow to President Barack Obama and Democrats.

Here's the complete article.

One doesn't have to be rocket scientist to figure out how some people get the impression that the entire government is against the citizens.

on edit:
Be sure to check out the comments. Really kind of sad.

1. There is no doubt.
media consolidation has contributed to poor choices by the electorate. And that was the objective all along.

3. Yup, And This Type Of Spin Is Now THE Standard
I see this over and over and over again, in fact, it's how the majority of traditional media handles these stories.
