2. Where is the federal response?
Why are you leaving us to die, Mr. President?

5. I don't think he cares.
There is no other explanation.

I am horrified at this.

My mother asked during 9/11...where is the President? Now we are asking it again.

Sorry if this violates any new DU policy...it is the truth.

I think you know that.

9. I sure wish I did.
But I am not alone in my firm belief that he is not doing all he could be doing.

Guess he is too busy "winning" the war in Afghanistan.

7. You expect him to swim down with a cork in his teeth?
Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 01:04 PM by Warpy
Honest to god, what in the hell do you expect him to do? He's managed to serve notice on BP that they're going to have to compensate people for destroyed livelihoods and property, that they're going to have to clean this up, and he's ordered support ships that he commands into the region to aid the drilling and recovery operations.

From the very first day, knowledgeable people have said the only way to control the monster is to drill pressure relief wells and we're just going to have to wait until those get done. Since the US government, and by extension Obama, is not in the drilling business, the oil companies are going to have to be the ones to do it, not the government.

Pictures of spoiled beaches and dead and dying wildlife are hard to take. However, until the flow is stopped, there will be no way to clean the mess up, if it can be cleaned up.

My own guess is that it will take decades to start to appear normal and centuries to become normal.

But there isn't a damned thing Obama can do beyond what he's done already.

8. Yes there is.
He supposedly told them to stop spraying the dispersant, but they are still doing so. So he should STOP THEM. That stuff is ILLEGAL in the UK, where this company hails from.

He should get someone other than that moron Thad Allen in there who knows what he's doing.

He should be looking just as I am at the pictures of the beaches and when he sees NO cleanup crews ANYWHERE in sight, he should make a damn phone call and find out WHY THE FUCK NOT.

That would be a start.

11. The (non-)action on the burms is inexplicable & some other things
but IIRC dispersants are highly toxic. Even if they worked as expected they would evaporate, come down in the rain and poison fresh water supplies.

13. You know why he can't?
Why aren't there people cleaning the beaches? And more to the point why aren't there vessels skimming the oil close to the source?

Is there a reason for that?

3. utterly sickening problem
and I have no doubt that what's reported (or what we've discovered so far) is only 1-10% of the full scope of this disaster, at best..
If we continue to consider the environment as a secondary problem, unlinked to politics, the economy, and our lifestyle, there is truly no hope for us.

Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 11:29 AM by chelsea0011
that the President has made available to help with the clean-up and the governor is not using all the people available to him. He has called up a fraction of the troops. Is this true?

BP, Halliburton and the Big Oil enablers should be proud of themselves.
