Thank god at least a plurality (45%) of dumbfuck Rasmussen voters disagree.

1. That's the same amount that think Jesus is going to return..
I'd say the chances of either happening are about equal...

6. I do
And while we send our kids to soccer practice, most Americans really don't follow the game or know squat about it. Yes, if you live in a big city with an international population, you'll find some interest in the World Cup, but it just isn't the case out in the land of football, baseball, basketball, and NASCAR.

9. I don't agree.
ESPN reported the highest online viewership for the US match. 1.1 MILLION watching ESPN3 online. That is huge. Plus, another 9-10,000,000 watching during a workday morning on cable or sat. Pretty soon, ignorant sports writers who always diss this sport will have to learn, or be prepared to look for other work. Football (soccer) is now a fixture in US sports.

11. it might be huge for soccer . . . but still way less than 1% of the public
and the 1.1 million probably includes many outside our borders.

Soccer might be a "fixture" - but is still a minor sport with volleyball, golf, bowling etc.

15. Yeah
How the hell is poker considered a 'sport"? It's a game, sure, but so is Monopoly!

13. +1. Same amount think Obama sucks as think Jesus is returning and the US can win the World Cup.
Forty +/- 1 % EVERY time? Even I could guarantee those results by hand picking my respondents.

3. we've had a mental block about Euro teams
tying England did wonders for us.

Now France is gone. Italy gone. England and Germany will soon fight WWIII. Our mental block? Gone.

If we can beat Ghana, no easy feat for any team, then we will have proved ourselves worthy. Hell, that comeback from 0-2 proved that we have a real team. We also have one of the best goal keepers on the field. Our attackers are fast, and our bench is faster. If we can avoid the dreaded slow first half, anything can happen, even a victory.

5. i wouldn't count on it..
There's still Brazil and Argentina..this WC is being played in the southern hemisphere after all. And if you remember, a half strength Brazil squad scored 3 second half goals to beat the US in the Confederations cup.

7. Argentina would be a worry, if they played defense.
Their coach has collected some of the best players in the world. on offense. A quick counter can put them on their heels.
Brazil? Probably will be in the finals. We shall see how Portugal deals with them today.

To be honest, I am still chortling over France and Italy.

16. I agree. I feel that the South Americans are well ahead of us in game technique.
But, as Bill Clinton famously said, "Never bet against the United States."

What did he know?

8. I am amazed people rooting for the US to win, who don't have a clue about soccer

are probabely the same ones that ignore the Williams sisters in Tennis...they do not get the publicity that they deserve, but reflects a lot on the country..

14. That statistic doesn't prove that anyone is a "dumb fuck"
Most people in the country, regardless of intelligence or party affiliation don't know much of anything at all about the World Cup. They could care less, have zero invested in the event or the outcome, so picking the U.S. is simply a meaningless gesture.
