10. I hope you're right.
Especially now that we have a Democratic Congress, I would say it's less likely...but Bush is a psychopath, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he found some way to circumvent the law (again). I really hope none of that happens and we can all have a good laugh at my expense for being a paranoid idiot, but I am not putting anything past this "president" and his cronies.

12. No problem! Cheney has nukes ready to roll.
Seriously, did EVERY one miss the Philip Giraldi article from August 2005?
I've posted it here on DU a hundred times.

Deep Background

In Washington it is hardly a secret that the same people in and around the administration who brought you Iraq are preparing to do the same for Iran. The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney’s office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing—that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack—but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections."

6. If this is "breaking", will you tell us what they actually said?
If MSNBC said "Bush wants another war", that would be news in itself. Media is rarely that straightforward.

9. First thing Congress needs to do is repeal the IWR
2. Exercise their authority with the War Powers Act
3. Start investigations immediately on this administration

If the investigations led to illegal activity, then proceed to impeachment

If the Democrats do nothing, then that is exactly what the party represents

16. Is it clear that Congress has the authority to repeal the IWR?
Or amend? I hope so. I wonder because I have heard lots of talk about leveraging the power of the purse but nothing about simply amending or repealing, which would seem to me to be a far simpler and more direct manner of accomplishing the job. I thought maybe there was something in the Constitution foreclosing the option to explain why there has not been more discussion about it.

14. And this is what I just sent my delegation
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 09:29 PM by nadinbrzezinski
feel free to use it

Well, well the news breaks with baited breath... US Troops killed, ambushed, last week at Karballah by Iranian Agents.

These are the same agents who wore US Uniforms and had US ID cards, and access to security codes.

Only one thing went though my head.... a lone radio station in Poland on September 1st, 1939.

We know that this President WANTS another war, after all the present one is going so swimmingly.

I beseech you, it is time to be all but trusting of this President. I may add, we don't have the troops and I hate to say it, but this President wants to use Nuclear Weapons. The consequences of these actions will be the dawn of WW III, worst case, or best case, the complete and total isolation of the US in the world as a rogue state.

This is what is at stake.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXXX
