A question for the political "Dear Abby"
You visit a friend's house. You're invited into the family room. You sit. There on the coffee table is a copy of Going Rogue.

What do you do?

1. I politely reach for the book...

And turn it over so I don't hurl all over my hosts lovely furniture and rugs.

with your pen when they leave the room. If they notice tell them it was that way when you got there. And frown at one of their children.

4. I politely ignore it, just as I would ignore it if their child took a dump on the rug

11. Agreed--but it would be just as hard to ignore it as the kid taking the dump. nt

5. Is the fireplace lit?
If not the stove will work just as well. Make sure you have marshmallows handy.

7. Cope with the rest of the experience
and then start to increase distance.

Even if they were given such an exercise in self aggrandizing drivel and had no intention of reading it, the only appropriate place to display it is peeking out of a rubbish can.

8. If it were a good friend, I would say...
"You have to be fucking kidding me" and then commit to buying them "Going Rouge" as a companion piece. (The only way a good friend of mine would have that on their table would be because someone gave it to them as a joke and they love the reactions they would get from it being on display)

If they were an acquaintance, I would just finish every sentence I spoke with "you betcha also too".

If they were my boss, I would studiously ignore it.

13. I've never been accused of being Dear Abby, so...
take this as just an opinion. I would start a discussion with them about the book. Did they read it? Did they like it? What did they like, what didn't they like? And we would probably have a heated discussion about politics and idiots. But sorry, I could not just ignore it.

14. Excuse myself based on an "early AM meeting" excuse OR time willing & knowing me
ask them about their take on the ghost-writ tome in the offchance for a meeting of the minds.

Likely the latter first as I like confrontational opinions.

15. Could not happen to me.
GWB brought to my life is that I now KNOW where my friends stand politically.

Over the time of GWB nobody who supported him remained a friend, our political discourse after a while simply did not allow togetherness for the amount of time it takes to nurture a friendship.
