Gingrich Plots GOP Comeback Against 'Radical' Obama
http://www.npr.org/blogs/politicaljunkie/2010/06/20/127965909/newt-on-npr-plots-republican-comeback-against-radical-obama-and-dems

by Ken Rudin

Newt Gingrich helped design the plan that brought Republicans control of the House in 1994 for the first time in 40 years. It's a majority the GOP held until voters kicked them out in 2006, when many in the party said it lost its way, and they were further set back with additional Democratic gains in 2008. Not to mention the election of a Democrat to the White House.

6. NPR took a hard right turn during the Bush administration
Edited on Tue Jun-22-10 05:09 PM by Tempest
NPR went to the right after Bush appointed Tomlinson to head CBP and Warren Bell to its board of directors.

I stopped listening to NPR after that.

If you're in Alameda, CA, you should be listening to Pacifica radio.

16. The only spin you get from Pacifica

Is the truth.

Most people can't handle that much true in the course of a radio show.

17. well you should
during the Bush administration, they made it a priority to put republican idealogues in power. I learned a BIG lesson during the Bush administration, and it was this: ALL mainstream American media lies its ass off in fealty to power, including NPR.

I learned this by reading news from other countries. I learned, long before, months and months before I heard any mention of the same in the U.S. that the Jessica Lynch story was bullshit propaganda made up by Rumsfeld.

I learned about Pat Tillmans' death.

I learned about the propaganda machine that manufactured a "victory moment" pulling down the statue of Saddam - the area was closed off and Chalabi's crew was brought in - the pictures are still available to see online. This was pure bullshit propaganda for American consumption.

Oh, and you know where I learned these things? Via British news sources, chiefly.

You apparently have no idea how much you are being manipulated by limiting your news sources to mainstream American media. This is true even in the case of NPR, sadly.

Via Pacifica, however, I learned about the Harper's Magazine reporter who covered the refusal to hear the case against Chaquita banana for forced labor (labor AT GUNPOINT - in American courts.) I learned about the lies of the Bush administration regarding the restructuring of Iraq - and these things were the truth.

Alternative Radio, Democracy Now! - in addition to sources like Harper's and The Nation, in print, provide some truth that you will rarely hear in mainstream media... that's the honest truth that I learned - and you would too if you didn't automatically assume something is "too liberal" for you... what you're saying is THEY TELL TOO MUCH TRUTH that you don't want to know about.

23. Yep.
I only knew Bush was lying before the Iraq invasion because I read alternative media and some foreign press.

NPR may not be as bad as MSNBC or CNN. But, it was still a victim of the right-wing effort to destroy the effectiveness of any legitimate source of news.

Many things have changed, including demographics, people's perception of the corporation, and Obama's clear majority win in 2008.

21. Labeling your adversary a radical
is from the Luntz/Gingrich book of effective language and framing.
In 04 they successfully made a genuine war hero a chump and a genuine chump a war hero. Owning the major media outlets helped, as they ran the Swiftboat ads against John Kerry as news. Consequently, it appeared that the news was reporting about Kerry's military record.
Did I say Newt Gingrich is a certified douche bag?
