Regarding McChrystal's "creative writing" while at West Point
Edited on Tue Jun-22-10 04:45 PM by Duer 157099
I was a bit taken aback to read this excerpt from the Rolling Stone article. How does one manage to get so high up in the ranks with this piece of fiction neatly tucked in their past?

It's just a little bit creepy.

In "Brinkman's Note," a piece of suspense fiction, the unnamed narrator appears to be trying to stop a plot to assassinate the president. It turns out, however, that the narrator himself is the assassin, and he's able to infiltrate the White House: "The President strode in smiling. From the right coat pocket of the raincoat I carried, I slowly drew forth my 32-caliber pistol. In Brinkman's failure, I had succeeded."

1. Should writing fiction disqualify one from high office?
Does Tom Clancy really want to blow up Baltimore with a nuclear bomb?

There are plenty of great reasons to despise McChrystal.

But this is silly.

3. If my high school student had written that today, how much you wanna bet
the secret service would be knocking on my door?

4. I wouldn't bet anything that they'd be knocking at your door.
I'd be betting good money that they wouldn't be knocking at your door.

For fuck's sake. Think of just how many fictitious short stories, novels, plays, songs, movies, TV shows, (I'm running out of fictious media) are there that involve the fictional assassination of a fictional president?

Kee-rist.
